Girls5Eva has had an interesting shelf life so far, and fans are wondering if the Netflix revival means they can look forward to Season 4 and beyond. The show had a two-season run on Peacock but lost the battle for survival there, being canceled before a third season was announced. However, Netflix would see potential and jump in to rescue the show.
Has Netflix renewed Girls5Eva for Season 4?
At the time of writing Girls5eva has not been renewed for Season 4. Season 3 dropped on March 14th, 2024, so it is still very early for the decision to be made. It takes a long time for all the data to be collated before another set of episodes can receive the green light. Since Netflix already went out of their way to revive Girls5eva the implication is that the streaming giant believes there is still mileage in the property, however, that doesn’t mean a fourth season is a foregone conclusion. How Season 3 performs over the coming weeks will make all the difference.
As far as the cast is concerned, they would be up for more seasons, with one of the main stars, Sara Bareilles, telling Variety that she hopes Girls5eva can eventually emulate something like Sex and the City:
“I just hope we get to keep making this show. It is a real bright spot. A deep, creative joy. I’m someone who consumes a lot of comedy shows, but I’ve never been a part of making one and it just reminds me the value of laughing and the buoyancy in our life. In times when things do feel so bleak, and it’s really easy to slip into a hopeless kind of state of mind, it isn’t completely frivolous to be making people laugh. It is actually of service and I really I take that to heart. I do think there is intrinsic value in that. I want a ‘Girls5eva’ movie. I want to ‘Sex and the City’ this shit. What a delicious dream.”
Why did Netflix save Girls5Eva after it was canceled?
When Girls5eva was cancelled a strategic effort was made to try and save the property by shopping it elsewhere. Netflix has been known in the past to pick up canceled shows, so the streamer was approached. Other connections between the show and Netflix also aided the decision.
An article in Variety would explore the notion that executives looking at the show wanted to maintain a good relationship with the producers, namely Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, Meredith Scardino, and Jeff Richmond. The article also notes that Netflix had stepped in to save another show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, after it was also canceled by NBC, and reveals that many NBCUniversal executives now work at Netflix. These executives have strong ties to Fey and Carlock.
Whatever the complicated reasons may be, at least the fans of the show will be happy.
How many episodes are there?
Girls5eva Season 3 has a reduced episode count, coming in at six rather than the eight of previous seasons. The reasons behind the decision to only produce six are vague, but this would likely be done as a cost-cutting exercise rather than a creative one. Six episodes are cheaper and faster to produce, meaning less potentially lost investment if the audience for the revival isn’t there.
Ironically, this probably proved beneficial to Girls5eva in other ways. Six episodes were enough to tell the intended story, which is tighter overall as a result, and it almost meant that filming was wrapped just before the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes which brought the industry to a temporary standstill. If filming had run on, we would most likely still be waiting for Season 3.

Along with reviving the show for its latest season, Netflix also picked up the rights to Girls5eva Season 1 and Season 2, which originally debuted on Peacock. Subscribers can now binge the entire series on the same platform.
