The Outreau Case — explored in the Netflix docuseries A French Nightmare — would shock the world and lead to many people being accused of heinous crimes. At the heart of the accusations and abuse was the wife of Thierry Delay, Myriam Badaoui. The couple were accused of abusing and torturing their own children, including Jonathan Delay, who has repeatedly spoken out about the abuse since, and others in the small French town of Outreau.

Myriam Badaoui was released from prison in 2015 and 2019, but her whereabouts are now unknown

In yet another instance of the justice system failing victims, Myriam Badaoui was released from prison not once but twice, in 2015 and 2019, and remains free, possibly living under a fake name.

Myriam Badaoui was convicted for her involvement in the torture and abuse of her own children and decided that she would also try to implicate as many people as possible on her way down. She accused over a dozen others in the abuse allegations, however, as things progressed, she changed her story, and eventually, it was ascertained that there were only two others involved.

Myriam’s behavior would result in her being given a fifteen-year sentence, which would be cut short due to her ailing health. She would be released from prison in 2015 but would re-offend, this time forging cheques, and stealing money, and would be convicted again, receiving an eight-month sentence in 2019. It has been reported that since her release, she has moved to another region in France, distancing herself from her family and previous life, but exact details are vague.

Myriam Badaoui May Have Changed Her Name

An article in Elle reveals details of Badaoui’s court appearance for the charges against her involving theft and forging cheques. At that hearing, she would say that her name was an “obstacle” for her after leaving prison. This would lead to her changing her name and moving. Elle would say:

“Now living in Brittany, Myriam Badaoui is said to have taken steps to change her name. No longer in contact with her children, including Jonathan Delay, she lives on the Allowance for Disabled Adults (AAH) and has very few social relationships.”

What did Myriam Badaoui do?

Badaoui was convicted of abusing her own children and filming the abuse that was also carried out by her husband, Thierry Delay. Badaoui would go on to implicate many other people in the abuse, accusations that she would eventually retract. An article in Elle would report: “Myriam Badaoui had been convicted of the rape of seven children, the sexual assault of ten children, as well as the pimping of her four sons and the corruption of eleven children.”

What did lawyer Jerome Crepin say about his client?

Badaoui’s lawyer would make the case that during her time in prison, Myriam had received therapy and treatment towards rehabilitation. She had also taken courses in hospitality and catering. He would say, “My client has the right to be forgotten, like any human being. She wants us to stop castigating her.”

At her trial she would say, “I’ve been losing control for a year,” and would claim she couldn’t find “her place” in the outside world.
