If nothing else, Episode 3 of The Regime was eventful. Politically, Elena’s small country got itself into a mess. It will be interesting to watch her navigate this in Episode 4 without her pet Herbert to tell her what to do. But what will happen to him? We have a few theories for that, as well as what might happen to Elena’s regime in the aftermath of her latest political decisions.

What will happen to Herbert?
Episode 3 ended with Herbert being arrested after attacking Elena and Emil. But will Herbert be imprisoned for his crimes, or is Elena planning a far worse fate for the former favorite? After all, he did almost strangle her to death, and she doesn’t seem like the type of person to easily forgive such a blunder.
Will Elena’s regime survive NATO sanctions?
While our Chancellor seems confident in her new foreign polity, the threat of sanctions looms over her small country. We rarely see the average citizens in the series, but when any of them make it on screen, it’s clear they’re poverty-stricken. Any sanctions imposed could cause more food scarcity, which could lead to further civil unrest, which could be very bad for Elena.
Will Agnes turn on her Chancellor in The Regime Episode 4?
In the first half of the series, Agnes has been a stoic presence in Elena’s series. She put up with slights, and insults, and allowed Elena to claim they “co-parent” Oskar. When Herbert decided radishes cure epilepsy, Agnes kept her mouth shut and silently procured real medicine for her son. She even showed kindness to Herbert when he treated her like trash.
But now, Elena took away Agnes’s son. I think Agnes is the type of woman who can endure many things, but removing custody of Oskar is particularly callous and may just be the straw that breaks this Palace Manager’s back. Oskar will never be safe as long as Elena controls his care, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Agnes started plotting and scheming against Elena.
