An earthquake of different proportions has sent the city of Ajiro upside down as we head into Shogun Episode 6. With Ajiro in shambles, we can only expect Lord Ishido and the Council of Regiments to plan an attack on Lord Toranaga and his crew. We’ll find out more when “Ladies of the Willow World,” drops on FX and Hulu on March 26, but in the meantime, let’s break down the particulars.

How will Ajiro recover from the earthquake?
At the end of Episode 5, we saw a massive earthquake shake the foundation of Ajiro with many people dying. Lord Toranaga almost one of them, but John Blackthorne helped rescue him. With Lord Toranaga and his crew currently scrambling, once Lord Ishido gets word, I can’t imagine he doesn’t plan to attack when they are at their weakest.
Lord Ishido and the Council of Regents struggled to pick a fifth person to solidify the Impeachment of Lord Toranaga. However, it wouldn’t be needed if he killed him. The biggest question is, will anyone stop Lord Ishido? Lord Toranaga is well respected, and with his back against the wall, I could see many of his fellow leaders step up and help them in the battle.
John Blackthorne and Lady Mariko
These two ended up sleeping together in Episode 4, but Buntaro’s return threw this entire fling aside. We see Buntaro act out against Lady Mariko, and Blackthorne comes to her side, but the relationship between these two is just getting started. Amid the earthquake, I still expect Blackthorne and Buntaro to come face to face over Lady Mariko, which turns out deadly for one of them.
As far as Lady Mariko, we learned more about her father, Akechi-san. He killed the ruler of Japan out of his love for the realm. As a result, he was forced to kill his wife and daughters, leaving Lady Mariko to fend for herself. There has got to be more about Lady Mariko we don’t know. Even with her relationship with Lord Toranaga being as simple as being his translator, uncovering the real reason she landed with Toranaga will have to come out at some point.
What will John Blackthorne do?
Blackthorne talked to Lord Toranaga about how he fulfilled his end of the deal and wanted his men and ship back to leave Japan. Of course, the earthquake put the conversation to the side. With Ajiro in shambles, we could see Blackthorne step up and help Lord Toranaga rebuild the country while fending off Lord Ishido.

Shogun Episode 6 is scheduled to release on FX on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. The release time is 10 PM EST on FX and 12:01 AM EST on Hulu. Episode 5 is titled “Ladies of the Willow World” and will have a run time of 58 minutes.
