This Chinese offering is based on an adventure fantasy novel called Ghost Blows Out the Light, and this time features three main treasure seekers, including a down-on-his-luck ex-soldier, his best friend, and a photojournalist looking for answers. They find danger as they uncover a deadly curse.
Relic Hunter (2014)
One of the more well-remembered series from the genre, Relic Hunter seemed to find inspiration from the Tomb Raider franchise, and we followed the often dangerous adventures of Sydney Fox, on a quest to find ancient, mystical relics, and return them to their former owners. Sydney would enlist the help of her colleagues to crack the case in this much-loved series.
Duck Tales (1987)
In this Disney animated series, we meet Scrooge McDuck, and his trio of enthusiastic and adventurous nephews, whom he is charged with looking after when Donald Duck decides to join the Navy. Huey, Dewey, and Louie, under the not-so-watchful eye of Scrooge, make their way around the world in a series of adventures involving secrets, treasure, and enemies who want to steal everything from Scrooge. The show would receive a re-launch in 2017, but the first run is better.
The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992)
It was always on the cards that some kind of spin-off series from Indy would arrive, and eventually in 1992, we received this beloved series, that unfortunately couldn’t quite recapture the magic of the early films, despite having George Lucas at the helm. The show only managed two seasons and starred George Hall as the old Indy narrating the stories from his misspent youth.
The Librarians (2014)
This is a well-remembered and long-running series that spins out of The Librarian film franchise. The show follows a group of misfit adventurers led by Eve Baird who strive to prevent mystical objects from becoming weapons in the hands of villainous antagonists. Frothy and camp, Outer Banks has been a sleeper hit and is heading towards a fourth series.

It makes sense that true stories about the pursuit of lost artifacts would eventually become an avenue of content for TV producers, leading to shows such as Diggers from National Geographic, which ran for 4 seasons and 66 episodes, all of which followed the adventures of friends and metal-detecting enthusiasts “King George” Wyant and Tim “The Ringmaster” Saylor.
Treasure Quest: Snake Island (2015)
