Baby Reindeer raises some terrifying issues, following the real-life story of writer and stand-up performer Richard Gadd, who empathically makes the smallest of kind gestures to a woman who appears in the bar he works in, and finds himself the center of her unwanted and obsessive attention. If you like your drama with a stalkerish vibe, I’ve put together a list of ten shows like Baby Reindeer that are along similar lines.
10 TV Shows Like Baby Reindeer
Stalker (2015)
Of course, this would be at the top of my list, as the clue is in the title, and the whole series was based upon a team that would investigate stalkers in LA. Chiseled wine aunt favorite Dylan McDermott would head the cast in this chilling show that sadly failed to make an impression, lasting just one season.
You (2018)
You follows the chilling story of Joe, who works in a book shop and meets an author named Guinevere Beck who he starts to become obsessed with. Joe starts to spiral downwards into a manic pattern of stalker-like activity, making it his mission to surreptitiously insert himself into the poor writer’s life while alienating her from everyone else.
Obsession: Dark Desires (2014)
Here is a series that explored true stories of various stalking cases, and presented them in a dramatized way. Although the cases were real, they would be recreated, showing the horror that the situation can cause, and would also feature testimony from the real people involved.
The popular show would run for four seasons, and when more content was curated, it would return for another run of episodes in 2019.
Stalk (2019)
Cyberstalking is front and center in this European tale of revenge that features a student humiliated by his peers and looking for payback. Hacking into their devices and finding their most personal details, he uses his information as a weapon, although there were some raised eyebrows about how the hacking process was presented.
Stacey Dooley: Stalkers (2022)
Down-to-earth straight-talking reporter and Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley, investigates the world of stalkers in this BBC-produced series, that sees Stacey investigating some terrible cases of stalking. Incidents of this kind of behavior have been increasing in the UK, and just like in Baby Reindeer, it can often be hard to find the help from authorities that is needed. Stacey looks into the ways that it is handled by the authorities, as well as speaking to both the stalked and the actual stalkers themselves.
Stalkers (2023)
This is a mini-series from the Philippines that explores the subject, this time with the stalker Harry, who becomes intensely interested in Apple — that’s the character’s name, not the fruit — following her and validating his decisions by saying he is protecting her. However, as the four episodes explore the situation, it twists the narrative, as sometimes things are not as clear-cut as they first appear.
The Escape Artist (2013)
Consistently returning time lord David Tennant would become obsessed with his barrister, the charismatic Will Burton, in this BBC production. Will is known as the escape artist as he has a knack for getting clients off with even the most damning accusations. However, after getting one particular client off with a murder, he starts to realize that no good deed goes unpunished, and a chilling Tennant embarks on a twisted campaign that leads to a shocking twist ending.
Stalked: Someone’s Watching (2011)
The more of these shows I’m looking at, the more I start to realize that stalking seems to be an epidemic out there. It’s enough to make you want to stay indoors in front of your TV all day and forget about meeting anyone in real life ever again because that’s not problematic at all. Here’s another set of episodes that explores real-life cases featuring the most mundane of situations that escalate into stalking horror.
Stalker Files (2017)
How many of you out there have sought to become rich and famous, perhaps dreaming of being a Hollywood film star or reality show influencer? Well, you must be mad, go get an education instead, as The Stalker Files exposes the lengths that some “fans” will go to just to be close to the celebrities they idolize. Cases involve Madonna, David Letterman, Jodie Foster, and even Steven Spielberg, in cases that send a shiver through the well-manipulated spines of A-listers everywhere.
Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974)
Thought I would lighten the load with our last entry, and fans of 70s horror will no doubt manage a wry smile as they recall Darren McGavin as Karl Kolchak, an investigative reporter who finds himself faced with a different monster or supernatural being every week, in a show that would be the inspiration for The X Files. After two hugely popular TV movies, The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler, Kolchak would get a regular series, but it would be short-lived with McGavin becoming tired of the format, the scripts, and the shooting schedule, but it remains a cult classic, with the character still popping up in other media even today.
