Fiasco has an interesting premise since it offers a behind-the-scenes look at a film’s production. The Netflix series was filmed to look like a film set, which would be a tricky aesthetic to create even if it wasn’t — as it is in this case — also about the bedlam that can ensue when a saboteur gets to run amok. Fundamentally Fiasco is a French show, filmed in France, about the French film industry.

Filming Locations Explained

Fiasco was filmed in various locations in France.

An article in the French publication actuEssonne would report that while the series was filming, they would be actively looking for extras to appear in certain scenes. The show, which was originally titled Making Of, was revealed to be filmed in various locations across France including Essonne in Bruyères-le-Châtel, a beautiful communal area where some of the outdoor scenes were probably recorded, and Saint-Chéron in Northern France.

The decision to film in France must have been easy to make, as the show is set there and France has some beautiful locations and varied landscapes that would be utilized in the process. Other areas that the crew would travel to included Seine-et-Marne, in Nandy.

The mockumentary style that the show uses features lots of behind-the-scenes footage as the doomed production begins, so the viewer is privy to the studio and sets that the crew on the show use in a similar way to Ricky Gervais’s comedy Extras.

Production and Filming Timeline

Here’s a brief timeline of how Fiasco came to be:

Production companies involved in Fiasco are Five Dogs and Ninety Films, and named talent production-wise goes to Pierre Niney and Igor Gotesman, who also created and wrote the show, with Gotesman directing.

Pierre Niney seems to be the hardest working actor in France just now, as this show comes hot on the heels of movies The Book of Solutions and The Count of Monte Cristo.
