Netflix‘s The Ultimatum: South Africa is another relationship-based reality show that intimately follows six couples who have been together for a long time and now are giving their partners an ultimatum to either marry them or move on. As indicated by the title, this is a regional spin-off of an already popular concept, so it should come as no surprise that the series was filmed on location in South Africa.
Filming Locations
The Ultimatum: South Africa is set near the Randpark Golf Course, which is found next to the Cresta Shopping Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Residents in the area will know the Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort also found there, which is a well-known destination for events and conventions, and, of course, weddings. Most of the show was filmed in and around this area.
There is plenty of location work on show and many interactions within the areas of the local hotel that showcase the rooms inside the building and the beautiful amenities available to the guests. Honestly, though, the locations and facilities that the couples have access to pale into insignificance when they come face to face with the reality of the relationship crises that they have stumbled into.
The Production Team Behind the Series
Urban Brew Studios is behind the show’s production and is ably assisted by named executive producers Adelaide Joshua-Hill and Carole Washington.
The Ultimatum: South Africa was announced in 2022, much to the delight of fans of the original series. The spin-off was directed by Tasneen Handerson and consists of nine episodes with an average run time of around an hour.
The show has been called a social experiment, but aren’t they all?
Who hosts The Ultimatum: South Africa?
The Ultimatum South Africa is hosted by the popular and respected South African power couple Salamina Mosese and Howza Mosese. Host and actress Salamina is a familiar face, with fans recently watching her on Seriously Single and Baby Mamas.
Howza, who is also known as Tshepo, has appeared in a few TV series such as Tshisa and Big Up.
Who are the couples on the show?
The six couples featured are:
- Khanya and Nkateko
- Ruth and Isaac
- Thabi and Genesis
- Lebo and Nolla
- Courtney and Aiden
- Sizakele and Lindile.
The show would take its toll on the players and lead to many couples breaking up throughout the nine-episode TV series.
Which couples stayed together?
Courtney and Aiden are still an item, as are Sizakele and Lindile. Thabi and Genesis also seem to be holding things together after the trauma of appearing on the show.
This means the other three couples crumbled under the weight of the pressure. But their loss is the viewer’s gain, as more drama means more viewers and more social media chatter, which is what these things burn for fuel.
