Summary

George Knapp tries his best, but this documentary series lacks a smoking gun for UFOs and aliens.

In case you didn’t know before deep-diving into the documentary series Investigation Alien, George Knapp is an American journalist, news anchor, and talk radio host. He has dedicated most of his career to investigating UFOs and paranormal experiences and, more notably, gave rise to conspiracy theorist Bob Lazar.

George Knapp is the host of Investigation Alien, which has six chapters in which he tries to convince the viewers that claims of alien life forces—some prominent, but others more of a local myth—are credible.

I’m going to be fair to George, mainly because I was not aware of his work until this series, and I have not experienced a UFO or an alien of any kind (or at least I think I haven’t). Plus, I have a conspiratorial mindset as well, so who am I to judge? The journalist attempts to verify his work and interviews with UFO witnesses by hiring ex-intelligence agents to be by his side so they can smell the bullsh*t.

This process is by no means a bad idea because despite the rising admission by the US government of the existence of alien lifeforms and UFOs, audiences will be understandably skeptical of the evidence and witnesses George Knapp is presented with here.

However, admittedly, having his own investigators by his side did not help his claims. If anything, it feels a tad overdone, especially when coupled with the cheesy documentary filmmaking and background music you’d expect from late-night TV from one of those rarely-used documentary channels.

What Investigation Alien lacks is a smoking gun. Nothing in this Netflix series warrants a rethink of what we already know. UFO sightings are nothing new or unique, and in an age where we can tamper images and video, much of the evidence is debunked.

Unfortunately, this documentary series is a waste of time. By the fifth episode, it gets desperate to give the viewer something concrete. There’s a cliffhanger, but nothing behind the shift in urgency presented to us.

I think me and George Knapp would get along in real life because I believe, in person, he’d have a lot of convincing anecdotes to offer. However, Investigation Alien is far too amateur to take seriously. Do I believe in aliens? Something is out there, but I’m not getting that affirmation from this.
