While it seems obvious who survived and died by the time you reach the end of Something in the Water, some questions are still poised. And so, I’ve broken down the deaths, the survivors, and the unknowns.
Deaths
Ruth
Ruth is the first victim of the shark-infested ocean when a shark takes a chunk out of her leg. It’s a slow, painful death as she slowly bleeds out. Her friends try to save her, but as they are stranded in the middle of the sea and their boat is sunk, they can do little.
Cam
It was only fitting that Cam died. She led the women to the desert island in the Caribbean in the first place. She’s not to blame, but Lizzie (the bride-to-be) repeatedly resents her for the situation they find themselves in, so her death was inevitable.
Cam had a quicker death than Ruth. A shark swallowed her up quickly, leaving behind a gush of blood on the surface of the water.
Survivors
Meg and Kayla
It’s also fitting that Meg and Kayla survive. This romantic couple starts the film and, after a recent break-up, makes amends in the Caribbean.
Kayla’s status was unknown for a long time after she swam off earlier in the movie. However, she returns later in the movie with a boat and saves Meg, who is about to be attacked by a shark.
Meg escapes unharmed and gets on Kayla’s boat. Both women are shocked at losing their friends, but at least they have each other. What was supposed to be a destination wedding ends in absolute horror.
Unknown
The only person with an unknown status is Lizzie, the bride-to-be. In the middle of the night, she held on to Meg in the cold sea. However, when Meg woke up, Lizzie was gone, nowhere to be seen.
With her body not found, leaving Meg in a state of confusion, we cannot confidently say if Lizzie is dead or alive.
However, I think it’s very likely that Lizzie is dead.
That completes the list of deaths and survivors for Something in the Water. The ending ensures that the characters who had an impact at the start of the movie are the survivors at the end.
