XO, Kitty Season 2 was a whirlwind of emotions and drama! Funnily enough, Kitty explicitly tells us at the start of the season that she wants a drama-free year! But look how that turns out by the time we reach Episode 8!

Season 2 was primarily focused on Stella’s storyline. Stella was a new addition to the cast. We discovered earlier in the season that she is seeking revenge against Min Ho’s father, Moon.

At a younger age, Stella performed on the “Moons Music Talent Show.” Yet she was rejected, distraught, and angered. Thus began her storyline for revenge.

At the end of XO, Kitty Season 2, Episode 8, we are met with a simple and deflating end to Stella’s plan. Imagine a dead firework fizzling out. That’s how it felt. But just because this part of the ending fizzled doesn’t mean the whole episode was terrible. And it also doesn’t mean that the themes within it are unimportant and uninspired. It’s a great place to start for our first theme:

The Theme of Family and Home

Stella believes that she has dirt on Joon Ho, Min Ho’s famous pop singer brother. Stella finds out he has slept with one of his backing dancers, and she’s pregnant.

Moon does not want to broadcast this information to the world for fear that it will ruin the family business. Stella plans to reveal this information! However, Joon Ho tells his dad that he’s in love with the dancer and wants to marry her and be there for his child.

Kitty shares the idea that Joon Ho should make an announcement to the world regarding the woman he’s in love with, which he does. He proposes! ESK!

This removes Stella’s threat. And her revenge plan is over. And that’s it. Moon apologizes because he now realizes that family is more important than his business. He prays that Stella has that back home and escorts her to a plane.

What is the point I’m making, you may ask? The fact is that Moon could let go of his fears and desires for fame and fortune and accept his son’s decision even if it would’ve cost him everything, which it doesn’t seem to have done. But maybe season 3 will suggest otherwise. Moon makes a sacrifice for family. It has beautiful consequences for him, such as a closer relationship with his son.

Onto a tangent, we start the finale of Season 2 with Kitty telling the audience how she feels that she has family and feels at home. Home is and isn’t a location. Family is but isn’t limited to blood relation.

Kitty has a home with her family, a home with her friends, a home in Seoul, and a home with her mother’s memories. It’s genuinely a beautiful theme and story. It brings up feelings of desire to have the same thing in one’s life.

The Theme of Good Always Prevails

An additional point to the Stella storyline is that good will always prevail. If you put goodness and kindness into the world, you will be rewarded, and your efforts will be purposeful. This is shown by Stella’s defeat.

When we tackle any life issues from a place of malice, revenge, or pain, nothing good can be birthed. The darkness snuffs out the light, and all that’s left is emptiness. So, when Kitty’s plan focuses on love, family, and goodness, it’s no wonder her plan succeeds.

Therefore, the ending of XO, Kitty Season 2 ties up the majority of the drama with resolution, happiness, and future hope.

However, the final moments of Season 2 are the most frustrating. The story ends in the same place we left season 1, with the question of what will happen between Kitty and Min Ho (who were all secretly shipping together).

The writers lead us along the journey of Kitty talking to Q about how she feels about Min Ho. Q persuades Kitty to go and tell him! The audience is getting excited because we know that he’s still interested in her. They’re finally at the same place at the same time with each other.

Kitty goes to find Min Ho. Min Ho tells her he’s going on a trip with his father and brother. So Kitty holds back on expressing her feelings – ARRGH. But then, thankfully, at the very last second, she asks Min Ho if she can join them.

So, will we get another season? And will we finally see Min Ho and Kitty together? I’m rooting for it.

As a final footnote, I can point out that the writers and producers of this show ended season 2 with predominantly traditional themes. Joon Ho proposes to his partner, who is carrying his child. More interestingly, Kitty is confused about her sexuality but has found herself focused back on Min Ho. This fits the themes found in K-dramas.
