Summary

Season 4, Episode 4 delivers a chaotic yet intriguing murder mystery party that mixes pranks, dysfunctional relationships, and a surprise proposal, though its narrative sometimes feels forced.

As I reached Episode 4 of Mythic Quest Season 4, it suddenly dawned on me that I was getting a little bored of the whole Ian and Poppy puzzle. Yes, it’s cute to see Ian realize that he has real human feelings, but only so much material can be given to this massively toxic relationship, even in a comedy series.

Luckily, the fourth episode, titled “The Villain’s Feast,” had a wonderful ending and is easily one of the best moments of Mythic Quest Season 4. Here’s my breakdown.

A Breakdown of the Murder Mystery

Episode 4 sees the MQ company at a Murder Mystery Party on a private island in a wealthy-looking manor. Storm is a guest, too, invited by Poppy. Predictably, Jo is helping host the Murder Mystery Party – she’s the game mistress.

At the start of “The Villain’s Feast,” the host’s identity is a mystery. Poppy assumes it’s Ian, a ploy to get close to her lover, Storm. However, Ian maintains his innocence throughout the chapter, adding a layer of mystery to the story.

And so, as expected, this dysfunctional workforce gets on with the Murder Mystery as illogical and comedically as possible. Ian and Storm do finally catch up during the game. Storm explains to Ian that his relationship with Poppy is merely a fling and asks him not to tell her, citing “bro code.” Ian should have known something fishy afoot was happening from the start, but we all know his brain cells are not well aligned most of the time.

Brad is the first victim of the game, but the more shocking reveal is that Jo, who is running it, has no idea who the host is (or so we thought). The Murder Mystery turns into “Who is the host and the murderer?” Predictably, David is voted first and eliminated. Much to his dismay, he is innocent as he tries to prove to his colleagues that he can be fun.

Carol is the second person to be killed. During deliberations, Ian gets increasingly irritated when he sees Poppy and Storm enjoying socializing, so he tells Poppy that Storm is treating her as a fling. Poppy scoffs at Ian’s claims and states she does not believe him.

So, Ian takes it a step further and tells everyone that he saw Storm flirt with Jo. Storm surprisingly admits that he did, but it was harmless flirting, and Poppy initially seems upset. However, it turns out that Storm and Poppy are pranking Ian. They wanted to teach Ian a lesson for prying into Poppy’s business. Due to all the suspicions about Ian, he is eliminated from the game, but he reveals he is innocent and only guilty for looking out for Poppy.

Poppy apologizes to Ian for the prank, but Ian admits the prank made him like Storm more and understands he did cross a personal boundary. To make matters worse for Poppy, he gives her and Storm his blessing, but she doesn’t want one, insisting they only enjoy a fling as Storm is moving to the Netherlands for five months for work.

But what was really the point of the prank is what we, the audience, must ask? Storm was a willing participant, but does Poppy likely have subconscious motives? Maybe she misses the dynamic she and Ian have and wants to find ways to get in his head.

Storm is the final person to be killed in the Murder Mystery, which leads to final deliberations. This brings a sweet, wholesome moment to Mythic Quest Season 4.

An Elaborate Marriage Proposal and a Potential Pregnancy

With no one knowing who the host or killer is, Rachel goes into full investigation mode, bringing facts to the case. She reviews each suspect’s motive and even learns the strange fact that Brad owns the property. Rachel figures out that at least four of her colleagues paid for this Murder Mystery party, with Jo collecting the money, but none of them know for whom.

This is where Rachel figures it all out. Only one person would know that a Murder Mystery party would be her perfect evening, and that person is Dana.

Yes, Dana is the host of the Murder Mystery. Once revealed, Dana stands up, gets on one knee, and proposes to Rachel for marriage. This party, this Murder Mystery, was part of an elaborate setup by Dana, helped by Jo so that she could propose to her girlfriend. And she set up a party that Rachel would love. What was looking like a standard episode of Ian and Poppy predictably playing mind games with each other turned out to be a meaningful chapter in the story.

Dana even brought the couch to the party, where she and Rachel used to test games together, returning memories of Season 1.

And, of course, Rachel accepts Dana’s proposal. It was a hard one to turn down.

But then there’s a further twist. At the end of Mythic Quest Season 4, Episode 4, Poppy is getting agitated that Ian and Storm are getting along so well that she doesn’t want them to be friends. She then realizes that her taste buds have changed recently, prompting Carol to joke that she may be pregnant. Poppy’s face is a picture; she may well be pregnant! That’s the last thing Poppy needs unless she is serious about Storm (even though she claims she isn’t). But where would this leave her partnership with Ian?
