Bronte: “How do I give you the ending you deserve?” This is a very exciting question for viewers, as we care about finally closing the book on Joe Goldberg in You Season 5, Episode 10.

We open the You Season 5 finale with Joe and Bronte on the road, traveling from New York to Canada. Joe hopes to cross the border using fake passports from his old friend Will.

Although Bronte tries to remain calm, Joe suspects something is amiss. It’s dangerous for Bronte. Nevertheless, she continues to bring back her convincing ways, and Joe is stunned by his rose-tinted glasses for a while.

A little stop for gas, and Bronte goes inside to buy snacks for the road. Inside, Bronte sees a lady’s pink knuckle duster. We don’t see her buying it, but she does to go nicely alongside her gun.

Also, in the store, a police officer enters and asks her if she’s in danger (in hindsight, I suspect this is a response to the purchase of the pink knuckle duster). Anyway, she and Joe continue on the road.

It’s time for another stopover in the woods in a quiet, secluded place. There were no reservations; Joe just broke in and assured Bronte that everything would be okay. Bronte quickly realizes that tonight must be the night she ends things with Joe because she can’t sleep with him anymore, understandably. They have dinner and take a short boat trip out onto the lake. Bronte recognizes that Joe uses love and romance as a weapon, and then he does exactly that, leading them to the bedroom.

As they start to get down and dirty, Bronte guides Joe’s head down to her head and suddenly, she pulls out a gun from under the pillow and holds it against his head.

Bronte: “Tell me how you killed Guinevere Beck.”

Back in the shop, Bronte picked up Beck’s book and bought it. She demands that Joe mark through all his additions to her writing. She asks him if it was not enough that he took her life, but he had to take her voice too. Then Joe plays his mind games again: “Bronte, I think I love you more than you love yourself,” he presses on.

Returning quickly to Joe’s friend Will, he calls Joe and reconnects him with Henry. But Joe pleads and begs Bronte to let him speak. She does. And Henry is heartbroken. He asks his dad what he did to his mum because Teddy had told him some things. Then Henry proceeds to ask his dad, “Do you remember when you used to tell me there were no monsters in my room?” (I’m paraphrasing), and he continues to tell Joe that he was the monster that was living in his room – and he hangs up the phone. Joe has completely lost his son. And he breaks.

Joe: “I have been delusional – putting so much faith in love, in the universe, in her. Fucking Bronte.”

And Joe tackles Bronte to the ground, and what follows is a lot of scrambling and fighting. They both stab each other. There’s a lot of running through the forest, in the house, and searching for the phone to call 911. Bronte gets tackled about five million times. Joe admits to being the one who broke her ankle (I KNEW IT!), and he seems pretty pleased with the idea that breaking her ankle will help him kill her now.

Joe screams, “You want to know how I killed Beck? I’ll show you,” and then drowns her in the lake. And that’s it, another one bites the dust.

However, the cops are now closing in on Joe. At first, there’s just one. He almost catches Joe, but Joe stabs him with Bronte’s pink knuckle duster. He’s going full-on rampage mode like players can do in the video game Among Us. Meanwhile, more cops tighten their presence around the forest.

**GUN CLICK**

Joe turns around, and Bronte has risen from the lake! Joe begins to beg Bronte for death, but she knows that’s not a good enough punishment for him. She corrects him and tells him that her name is Louise. She is essentially reclaiming herself, expressing that he has taken her away from herself piece by piece. It’s an empowering moment for Bronte.

Joe takes a step forward, and then Louise shoots his manhood off, and he gets caught by the cops.

The resolution to the Season 5 finale of You is that Joe is arrested. He is made to face all of himself and all that he did through his court case. It is messy and disturbing. Now Joe is serving multiple life sentences in prison – all alone—his worst punishment. Beck was the one he couldn’t outrun.

At the very last second, he receives fan mail from Belinda, suggesting that he will still receive female adoration no matter what. He explains how society is messed up and ends with, “Maybe you’re the problem.” *mic drop* (more on this in my ending explanation.)

But to end on a brighter note… hear Bronte narrating that Joe Goldberg will never be free again, that Kate survived the fire and wears her scars as penance, Henry is happy and healthy, Marrienne is publishing her paintings, Teddy is doing well with the business, Maddie and Harrison are free together—and expecting another baby, Dr. Nicky has been freed, and Nadia published a book. She edited Joe out of Beck’s book and republished it.

She claims there will be no ‘Before Joe’ and ‘After Joe’ in her life—his impact diminishes every day. He will be some A-hole she dated. He will not take up more space in her life. “Goodbye, You.”
