Episode 5 of Furious Season 1 delivered a tense, emotional hour of television. Between Emmy Rossum’s tour de force breakdown as Alice, Hal receiving a syringe in the eye (F-king gruesome), and Catherine leaving bodies in her wake, the series has woken up.
With Episode 5 ending on a cliffhanger (Alice catching Catherine’s reflection in the mirror at the safe surrender shelter), the stage is set for an interesting follow-up. Based on everything uncovered in “Pick a Sticker,” here are some predictions and theories as to what may happen in Episode 6.
Alice and Catherine May Form an Uneasy Alliance
The final scene of Episode 5 placed Alice and Catherine in the same waiting room at the survivors’ shelter. While the natural reaction would be for Alice to pull her service weapon and arrest the wanted serial killer, don’t expect a standard stand-off in Episode 6 — that’s far too predictable!.
Alice is currently operating entirely off the record after being sidelined, and she knows ASAC Ed George is obstructing the investigation into Isabel’s death. Meanwhile, Catherine has the drive to break through red tape. Since both women are fueled by a desire to bring down Jay Easton and avenge Isabel, Alice may realize Catherine is her only weapon against a corrupt system. I expect a tense negotiation rather than an arrest.
Alden May Lie to the Police to Protect Catherine
Episode 5 saw poor Alden watch the woman he loves put a syringe into Hal’s eye. When Danny and Choi raided the apartment following a tip from Alden’s nurse, they found Hal dead and Alden alive.
While Danny and Choi will expect Alden to cooperate fully, Alden’s complex bond with Catherine might hold strong. Throughout Episode 5, we saw that Catherine genuinely cares for Alden in her damaged way, and Alden saw past her history of trauma to her vulnerability. Despite witnessing a murder, Alden may choose to give the authorities false directions or misdirect their timeline to buy Catherine enough time to finish her mission against Jay Easton.
Hal’s Siphoned “Kompromat” Could Expose FBI Corruption
Before his untimely end, Hal admitted to Catherine that he had spent years siphoning off blackmail material on Jay Easton as an insurance policy. While Hal didn’t survive to use it, his laptop — which Alden was tasked with hacking — is still out there.
In Episode 6, expect this digital paper trail to surface. Hal’s files likely contain more than just Jay Easton’s financial corruption; they may detail how ASAC Ed George and local law enforcement were compensated for covering up Isabel’s death. Whether Catherine manages to retrieve the hacked data or Danny and Choi recover Hal’s laptop from the crime scene, those files hold the key to unravelling the conspiracy.
Alice’s Trap for Marshall May Backfire into FBI Scrutiny
Alice’s brilliance was on full display in Episode 5 when she enticed her abusive ex, Marshall, poured whiskey down his throat, and staged a scene that led to a neighbour calling the police on an armed, intoxicated man. It was a masterclass in psychological warfare — but it leaves behind a trail.
Marshall is arrogant and controlling, but he isn’t stupid. Once the dust settles on his arrest, he may realize Alice deliberately set him up to eliminate her personal liability. If Marshall retaliates by contacting ASAC Ed George or going to internal affairs about Alice’s unstable behavior, her vigilante investigation with Catherine could be blown wide open before they ever reach Jay Easton.
