At the end of the last episode, a bewildered Yoo Jin-woo (Hyun Bin) is attacked by the non-player character version of Cha Hyung-seok (Park Hoon) on the last floor of the hostel. Jung Hee-joo (Shin-Hye Park) witnesses the fall. Shocked by this immediate impact, she gets him rushed to a hospital. Memories of the Alhambra episode 5 shows how a near-tragic incident causes a closer connection to the wealthy businessman and the former hostel owner.
You soon learn that Jung Hee-joo’s feelings for Yoo Jin-woo are confirmed, as his hospital ordeal drives her to tears, making her feel anger towards him for his near-death experience. You also realize that when Cha Hyung-seok came to duel him in the hostel, he didn’t have his augmented reality game contact lenses in, making us realise – what is happening to the CEO? His experiences from the gaming world are filtering into his reality, which is part of some bizarre plot development.
Memories of the Alhambra episode 5 presents a further danger for Yoo Jin-woo as he has to survive another attack from Cha Hyung-seok in hospital. Fortunately for Yoo Jin-woo, if there are any obstacles in the way the impending duel is delayed after a 60-second countdown. Yoo Jin-woo comes across as a madman shackled in the hospital as he screams and shouts at the staff and stumbles through the wards to try and prevent being killed.
Yoo Jin-woo comes to the sudden realisation that he killed Cha Hyung-seok by playing the game, and he accepted his fate that he was about to have the same manner of death; that’s until Yoo Jin-woo unknowingly becomes an obstacle, saving the businessman’s life. As episode 5 draws to a close, Yoo Jin-woo becomes the narrator discussing the possible whereabouts of the cryptic programmer Jung Se-joo (Chan-Yeol Park) – he believes the same scenario happened to him, where a non-player character is tirelessly tracking him down trying to kill him.
Memories of the Alhambra episode 5 ends with Jung See-joo presumably dead on the train platform, fading out in the game. This was a far better episode than the previous.
