Summary

With plenty of dramas, Episode 12, “Whale Hunt”, places the characters under important personality tests that will define the story under the Litt-era.

Suits season 8, episode 12 titled “Whale Hunt”, places each character under a personal test that marries into their professional life, giving us a sense of what type of person they are going to be in the Litt-era. The main storyline is in regards to Louis and Harvey; Mr Litt, with his newfound Managing Partner position, decides to boost some morale in Harvey and asks the “Best Closer in the City” to secure a new big client, and there happens to be one in town.

Harvey and Louis Are Briefly Enemies Again

Now, I’m not sure if it was intentional, but the client had the associations that cling to Elon Musk. He’s interested in vehicles, but as Harvey puts it, “you are not here to make money, you are here to make the world a better place”. Unfortunately, this suspicious Elon Musk-type character does not like Harvey’s reputation of doing what he wants, and he insists if Harvey wants him, he must learn to listen and walk away. Fortunately for Harvey, there is a charity poker night where his potential client is attending, and we all know how good he is at cards.

The issues arise because Louis Litt gets a whiff that Harvey lied and that he did not land the enormous client. The typical furious Louis demands that Harvey drops the potential customer and that he will go to poker himself and close the deal. Comedically, both turn up and play an intense game of poker to try and impress their potential client. “Whale Hunt” is a rerun of the best friends becoming enemies, at least for the day.

Romance and Healing Wounds Are Strong in Suits Season 8 Episode 11

Elsewhere, Donna has landed a date. The man she met the last episode has managed to whisk the COO off her feet, so much so she refuses to stay behind after work to meet him. I’ve never seen Donna so besotted by someone except Harvey, so it will be interesting to see how this story plays out. Will Harvey get jealous? Probably. Will Suits drag this out for another season? Probably.

Alex and Samantha decided to find a way to heal past wounds. They think it is a good idea to get Alex’s wife in, a lawyer, to work with Samantha on a case which is suing a University that lied to its students about the authenticity of its reputation and degrees, which is undoubtedly a dig at Trump University. “Whale Hunt” shows how fickle Suits think the audience can be. Of course, this arrangement was never going to work, because as soon as Samantha disagreed with the wife, she ran to Alex asking him to convince his other half. Kudos to Alex, he played it cool, and in the end, all was okay.

Brian and Katrina are back for a full episode! I’m starting to believe that these two characters are part-time. They both realize they have feelings for each other in “Whale Hunt” when they test out two different types of perfume, with Brian sniffing Katrina’s hand for an uncomfortable amount of time. This leads to them working at Brian’s house (the wife is away), and they have another non-physical moment. Katrina being the peak of professionalism tells Brian he can no longer be her associate.

Episode 12 actually worked; well-balanced, entertaining and keeping the characters interesting. Season 8 of Suits is very hit and miss.
