Some things never change. So, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Vida‘s second season began with an orgy — although I suppose it’s fitting that it wasn’t a very good one. Then again, isn’t a not-good orgy better than no orgy at all? A question for another day, perhaps. Either way, Lyn — who else? — isn’t having fun; she was apparently just there to sell dresses, after all. The reason she’s selling dresses is tied into the current state of Vida’s now-nameless bar, which is on its last legs to such an extent that Lyn is selling her clothes and Emma has quit her nebulous high-flying job to devote six months to keeping the thing afloat.

Yep, Emma has put her head on the chopping block, liquidating all her assets and drawing up a six-month plan that leaves zero margin for error. Again somewhat predictably, Emma enters Vida Season 2 Episode 1 bossing around some dork she works with, dismissively requesting his oral services and then getting quickly annoyed when he uses them to speak out of turn. Again, some things never change.

Much of Vida Season 2 Episode 1 is devoted to a planned fundraiser for Eddy, who is still hospitalized after a brutal homophobic attack at the end of the previous season. A problem, though, at least for Emma, is that Eddy and Vida weren’t legally married, which raises some awkward questions about the responsibilities of the bar now that Vida isn’t around. But now isn’t really the time for questions; even Emma, who is almost always opposed to Eddy in some way, sees the state she’s in and decides to take her home.

But there are bigger problems that need dealing with. One of the upstairs tenants has suddenly died, leaving a vacancy and a tragedy all to be handled; budgetary concerns are always a problem, even when it comes to planning a send-off, and how much of a fuss do the dead really need? All this and nobody can decide what to call the bar. Emma has a portfolio full of hilariously drab names to choose from, but everyone knows where that particular subplot is going. At the end of Vida Season 2 Episode 1, Lyn and Emma decide to call it Vida.
