This recap for Netflix’s The Chosen One Season 1, Episode 3, “The Relic”, contains significant spoilers. We have provided extensive coverage on the thriller, and you can read the recap of the previous episode by clicking these words.

The Chosen One season 1, episode 3, “The Relic” delves into the thick of the religious cult. As an atheist, I’d hate to be in this situation and episode 3 marks that conflict when faced with miracles. Before the action begins, Lúcia Santeiro (Paloma Bernardi) is nervous, believing she has seen The Chosen One (Ricardo Félix Rojas) at the Mangrove. The Chosen One senses Lúcia’s curiosity, but also questions why she afflicts Mateus (Mariano Mattos Martins).

“The Relic” is typical of a cult. Lúcia tries convincing The Chosen One to cure Damião Almeida (Pedro Caetano), but he responds wryly, questioning whether Lúcia now believes. Episode 3 has a certain smugness about it from The Chosen One, realising he has the doctors desperate to sign into his beliefs. Following on from the battle of science versus religion, Mateus is captured by the other tribe, desperate for the cure.

Episode 3, “The Relic” shows The Chosen One in action, and he agrees to cure Damião. Enzo Vergani (Gutto Szuster) and Lúcia are confused about how Damião is fully healed, but then he and The Chosen One suddenly have seizures. With the villagers panicking, there’s a question in whether the lack of faith has contaminated their beliefs and the Lord is punishing them all.

We experience another flashback in episode 3, “The Relic”. This time we witness Enzo’s upbringing, striving to be a doctor and a man that makes scientific discoveries to heal large populations. He has a strange, unhealthy relationship with his father where there’s a rivalry between both of them.

Later in this somewhat religiously in-depth chapter, Damião wakes up, and he is very healthy. While the other village tribe are threatening Mateus, shooting one of his legs, demanding they bring the healer, The Chosen One wakes up and beckons Lúcia. I’m not entirely sure what he was implying in his conversation with the doctor, but it was almost like he was stating that she is his new “life”, with the lady in the white dress looking particularly concerned.

The Chosen One approaches the tribe in episode 3, and questions their approach to wanting a cure. He agrees to heal them, but Mateus and Santiago are concerned that The Chosen One has been trapped, as he believes that Lúcia is a blessing. Even those who believe are doubting their own beliefs.

The Chosen One season 1, episode 3, “The Relic” ends with The Chosen One inviting Lúcia in his hospitality for the night. It’s worth noting that Lúcia seems comfortable with these people at this stage, pointedly reassuring her colleagues that they are safe. Enzo, however, is stubborn and suspicious and takes it in his own hands to spy. He is caught, and The Chosen One hangs him upside down above a lake full of crocodiles.
