Hannah’s mother — Olivia Baker — returns to town in Episode 10. She’s been asked to come in for questioning by the police. The police wonder why she tried ringing Clay on the night of the Homecoming game; she turns it around on the police and asks why the murder of a rapist has more investigative efforts than the victims of rape. Well played, Olivia.
The flashback that follows is between Jessica and Mrs. Baker; she’s moved city and asks how Jessica is. Mrs. Baker also reveals how she is still angry.
Mrs. Baker and Clay meet up, and she reveals that there was more to Tony and Bryce’s relationship. During the trial, The Walker family learned of Tony’s family’s immigration status. Flashbacks reveal that Bryce was convinced his family had nothing to do with it, but later he finds out his father reported them to ICE. Tony does not entertain his apologies, bringing Hannah into the conversation, where all this started. Bryce speaks about regret over Hannah and asks Tony to play the tapes. He cries like a baby while listening to Hannah’s voice.

I think many people will have many problems with this story; it’s angling that Bryce was trying to become a better person.
Bryce does try to speak to Olivia Baker, but she rejects the conversation. In the present-day, she tells Clay to survive, an instinct her daughter couldn’t grasp.
The plot thickens in Episode 10 as Clay plays Olivia’s voicemail from Homecoming to Ani; “I want to f****** kill him” is repeated over and over again. But Clay, being the noble person, is keeping it away from the police, knowing full well Mrs. Baker did not do it.
Mrs. Baker visits Bryce’s mother in Episode 10 and tells her that she believes Bryce was going to change for the better. Again, knowing how much controversy 13 Reasons Why has caused so far, I’m not sure this plot will go down well.
13 Reasons Why Season 3, Episode 10, “The World Closing In” closes with the police knocking on Clay’s house. They have a warrant to search the property.
