With Tyler admitting he has a gun, the entire group at school keep tabs on him. Episode 4 sees their worries deepen when they learn that he had a motive to kill Bryce.

“Angry, Young and Man” goes through the narrator’s thought process. Ani believes Tyler had the serial killer characteristics. That he was the ingredients of a killer cocktail, but on the other hand, Ani wants to think people can change, and that Tyler is not some monster ready to explode. Unfortunately, their stress heightens when Tyler catches on that they are spying on him.

There are a series of flashbacks in Episode 4, but the most important one is Tyler’s friendship with Jessica; she asks him why he nearly did the shooting, and his answer is vague — she gives him advice that the only way to get over the hill is by taking back the power from the people who hurt him. Tyler attends her activist group of sexual assault victims. One of the attendees is irked by his presence, but ironically, this person does not know that Tyler is a sexual assault victim.

With Clay following Tyler all day, “Angry, Young and Man” finally gets to the stage where Clay visits Tyler’s house to remove his remaining gun, but shockingly he finds photos of the deceased Bryce on his laptop. Tyler is adamant that he is not the killer and that has an explanation.

Ani returns with her narration, explaining that Spring Fling had always been a suicide mission. We see Monty telling Tyler that Bryce ordered the sexual assault, and Bryce denying it to Tyler. We learn at this moment that Tyler did not kill Bryce, but he only found him by accident; he explains to Clay that he wanted to jump off a bridge that night, but he saw Bryce’s body in the water, and it made him want to live and get better.

13 Reasons Why Season 3, Episode 4, “Angry, Young and Man” ends with the police confirming it was blunt force trauma that killed Bryce, not a gun, and the weapon is likely to have been dumped in the river; the same river the group dropped Tyler’s guns in. As the credits near, Justin meets the unknown man again to give him some cash.
