This recap of Netflix Series Marianne Season 1, Episode 8, “Tuesday” – The Finale, contains significant spoilers. You can read the recap of the previous episode by clicking these words.

After seven chapters of pure hell for Emma (Victoire Du Bois) and her friends, we have a conclusion.

Episode 8, “Tuesday” begins with the priest finding out that Emma is still writing. He reveals to her that it is not blood on her face, but holy water. The priest reveals to Emma that she is Marianne, after giving in to her wishes. Emma looks distraught at the revelation, feeling that she’s losing pieces of her with each second passing. She shoots the priest and wounds him, and walks off.

We’ve seen Emma visit the hole in the ground in her head all series, but now she is Marianna, she visits it to finish the mission. The hole is where Marianna was meant to be burnt to ashes by the Church years ago, but they failed. Emma pulls Marianna out of the hole and apologises for taking so long.

In one world, Emma is threatening the priest, and in another, she’s walking with Marianne to see her deceased spouse. She’s flitting between them both, unable to control the outcome.

But there is a saviour in all this — Aurore. I felt she would have given up on Emma after the events of the previous episode, but the friendship must be highly valuable. Aurore finds Emma and realises that she is now Marianne. Marianne tries to kill Aurore, but she throws a necklace around Emma — the same necklace Emma gave in the previous episode for protection. Emma is now in a halfway house where she can resist Marianne but is still under the witch’s hold. Emma warns Aurore and tells her to leave.

Emma realises that there’s only one other way to stop Marianne and that is to kill herself. While she’s trying to do this with the gun she is holding, the priest puts petrol down the hole where Marianne’s corpse is, but demon-like hands grab him, and he is thrown down the hole — the lighter a couple of meters away from him.

As Emma pulls the trigger to kill herself, Aurore makes sure she misses, and the priest sets Marianne’s burial pit on fire. Marianne is now gone for good.

Everyone is now safe after a series of horrific events. Before she leaves town, Emma has dinner with her father and she gives him a warm hug, promising him that she will return.

Emma picks up Camille who is refusing to speak — Emma realises that Camille was possessed and taken to a dark place, and gives her space. As they embark on their road trip, Emma wants to do two things; the first, she pays her respect to the now-dead priest and then she goes to say goodbye to Seby. Remember the last chapter where I wasn’t sure that Seby and Emma slept together, well when Emma tries to speak to him about it, he convincingly claims nothing ever happened between them. Seby asks Emma to leave his family alone.

So who did Emma sleep with? Visions reveal it was not human. On the road trip back, she keeps throwing up, so Camille buys her a pregnancy test kit. Emma is pregnant. Did she sleep with the devil? Marianne Season 1, Episode 8, “Tuesday” — The Finale ends on an open-ended cliffhanger.
