Raising Dion Season 1, Episode 9, “ISSUE #109: Storm Killer” is a satisfactory ending to the Netflix series, but not enough to convince for a season 2.
This recap of Netflix Series Raising Dion Season 1, Episode 9, “ISSUE #109: Storm Killer” contains spoilers. You can read the recap of the previous episode by clicking these words.
At the start of Episode 9, we once again witness the event in Iceland, but this time with a little more information. As Pat (Jason Ritter) loses radio connection with Mark, he goes outside his lab and is hit by radiation projectiles created by the aurora. When he returns home, his girlfriend Kerry breaks up with him, and his anger turns him into the storm.
After giving the audience that much-needed insight, “ISSUE #109: Storm Killer” turns the story back to the present-day. The storm crushes Charlotte, and Nicole is ready to flee. She packs, grabs Dion and hits the road.
When Pat returns to his human form, he wonders where Nicole and Dion are, and his obsessions now become more clear. He rings Nicole’s sister Kat and refuses to leave her home. At this stage, Kat can sense that Pat is flagrantly showing his true colors. Pat messages Dion through a video game to find out their location.
Nicole and Dion are at their family cabin, but Dion desperately wants to go home. In Episode 9, we learn that he wants to say sorry to Esperanza for floating her in the air. Nicole has a meaningful conversation with her son about boundaries — something that Pat did not respect. At this moment, Dion realizes he didn’t respect Esperanza’s boundaries either.
Pat turns up, and after a brief, shaky talk with Nicole, he pushes her out of the way to see Dion, who has managed to teleport back home — he is desperate to make up with Esperanza.
At the cabin, the truth comes out. Nicole learns that Pat is the storm and that he needs Dion so he can be healed. But as we know, Dion using his healing abilities could kill him. Pat shows his true storm-form and wrecks the cabin and leaves knocked out.
Dion’s life is in danger at this point in Episode 9; Pat turns up at the science fair and asks him to heal him. Dion, who doesn’t understand the situation, begins to heal him. In a timely moment, Nicole stops him.
Episode 9 then turns into the battle we were all kind of waiting for from the start. Jonathon tries using his storm killer device to stop Pat, but it doesn’t work. Dion battles the storm and matches him. Nicole wisely creates a metal rod and sticks it in the storm, and then Dion hits the rod with his powers. As he does this, loads of ghost-like figures leave the storm. Dion finishes the job and destroys the storm.
In a sweet moment, Dion’s father appears and embraces his family. He asks Dion to stay safe and forewarns him that there will always be evil. Dion vows to bring his Dad back one day, and then his energy disappears.
Raising Dion Season 1, Episode 9, “ISSUE #109: Storm Killer” ends with a scene showing Brayden, electricity forming from his hands. He is the new storm.
Episode 9 was a good ending to Raising Dion Season 1, but I wouldn’t campaign for a second season.
