ZeroZeroZero Season 1, Episode 8 peaks to a fantastic ending with family feuds and tragedies taking form for an explosive and enticing ending.

This recap of Amazon Prime Series ZeroZeroZero season 1, episode 8 contains significant spoilers.

Explosive, tragic, fulfilling — the three words to describe the ending of ZeroZeroZero Season 1, which showed the illogical meaning of family for the finale.

ZeroZeroZero Season 1, Episode 8 opens up in Monterrey, Mexico — Manuel is holding the newborn baby and he looks happy for a short while. He tells Diego’s partner that he will send her money regularly and that he will never see her again, for her son’s safety. She begs him to stay, and even when he hands the baby back, she continues to insist that he must stay, sensing that they have feelings for each other. Manuel tells her that he isn’t a good person — “I killed your husband”.

This was a cruel moment — the shock on her face as she’s realized she has confided in her husband’s killer is soul-destroying.

Manuel does not rest; Episode 8 sees his army encroach Leyras mansion during a child’s birthday celebration. They open fire instantly, killing one of the brothers outside. Manuel and his army find his other brother hiding at the back of the mansion and his wife begs Manuel — he commands his army to take the brother’s family away and tells the Leyras brother that if he collaborates then his family lives. The Leyras brother says he can give him 32 million immediately; Manuel forces the Leyras brother to ring Emma, asking her to meet at the mansion. Manuel then shoots him in the head.

This guy gets colder by the minute.

Episode 8 then flits to Calabria, Italy — giving the audience no time to breathe, Stefano is heading to Don Minu. Don Minu gets word that his grandson Stefano is back and wants to meet him.

Lucia and Mico are released to Stefano and he starts kissing his wife but they are quickly separated — they give Stefano a gun and tell him to kill his grandfather.

Stefano arrives at Don Minu’s hideout — they look at each other intensely, but then Emma appears from nowhere. What an unexpected twist…

And then we loop back to the events from the last episode — Emma returns to the hotel room to see Chris is not there. She finds Amina in the bathroom gagged — Amina tells her the Italians took him away. She heads back to the port and she finds Chris dead, blood everywhere. She cries uncontrollably. Emma lays next to her dead brother.

Emma then meets Don Minu and her line is easily read — “Your grandson killed my brother and he tried to stop the cargo”. She asks Don Minu what he would do if he was in her position.

“You give me your grandson, I’ll give you the container number”. Don Minu takes her inside and she hears a car outside approaching. Emma walks outside to see the man who murdered her brother. Stefano realizes his fate at this moment and hands over his gun. Don Minu calmly grabs Stefano at the back of the night and brings him inside the hideout. Don Minu and Stefano hug, and Stefano asks his grandfather to spare his family — Don Minu stabs his grandson with a sharp blade, straight to the heart. Emma watches, before going outside to take a deep breath. Don Minu cries at his dead grandson, asking for forgiveness.

This moment felt like hours, not minutes.

Emma gives an emotional Don Minu the container number. Don Minu says he will transfer the money to her father’s account. Don Minu’s men save Licia and Mico who are hostages — he delivered Stefano’s final wish.

The cargo is unpacked from the tins and Don Minu monitors the operation — he is congratulated by many people. He always said he would win this war, and this moment showed that he waited for the right time and tactically outsmarted his own grandson.

But this is not the end of an explosive finale — Emma heads to Monterrey, Mexico, believing she has a meeting with the Leyras brothers. Unfazed, Emma walks through the mansion of brutally murdered people and sits in between both the dead Leyras brothers — this was highly symbolic that Manuel had taken over the kingdom. She was sitting in it. Manuel asks for the money and Emma asks for a name — she gets out the bank transfer. Emma then asks for 2000 kilos in 3 weeks for a shipment heading for Russia. Manuel agrees to that deal and gives her his phone number.

ZeroZeroZero Season 1, Episode 8 closes with Manuel sitting in the mansion, allowing the moment to sink in — he’s succeeded his objectives and has built an empire overnight. Emma walks out, seemingly confidently, smiling at the soldiers — two drug lords are born.

In the end, it was all just business.
