Summary

Upload season 1, episode 10, “Freeyond” provides a satisfying conclusion but also ties into the second season with plenty of discussion points.

This recap of Amazon Original series Upload season 1, episode 10, “Freeyond” contains significant spoilers.

How does Upload season 1, episode 10, “Freeyond” begin?

The update has finished and the uploads wake up to their new and improved Lakeview. Nora wakes up Nathan; he remembers having an argument about the company, stating he does not care about who gets the credit. Jamie and Nathan reject Ingrid’s father’s business proposal. Afterward, he goes to Ingrid’s house and the father compliments the code, stating he will offer a large amount of money without Jamie involved.

Nathan says it would have to be a large amount of money for him to cut ties with Jamie.

Does Nathan remember anything?

At first, it seems he does not remember Nora and starts saying her attitude is very depressing. She cries near the lockers and Aleesha comforts her. When Nora is okay again, she checks out his memories and is upset by what she sees — Nathan betrayed his best friend.

But does Nathan actually remember his time at Lakeview in “Freeyond’?

He does — he tells Luke he remembers everything but he pretended to Nora that he didn’t; he’s embarrassed with his memories.

Nathan heads to the 2gig room now that he’s fully financially independent — 2gig is not a lot in this world so another person advises him not to think too much and he will get a top-up a month later. He tries to ring Nora, already using his data, but she eventually VRs to him.

Nathan tells Nora that he remembers everything but that he also remembers being a “piece of s***’ and betraying his best friend Jamie and that he could not stand to face her.

Nora makes it clear that she doesn’t want to be treated in the same way.

Is Nora in trouble?

As Nora is on VR, a man enters her apartment — Nora takes her VR off and checks the front door; the man is in the bathroom. Eventually, she sees the man in a mirror and heads out of the window. Nathan uses the code exposure tool to use CCTV to track Nora and gives her instructions to help evade the man.

Nora heads into a hotel and runs up the stairs. Jamie speaks to the man via the elevator intercom and asks why he’s doing this when he did everything he asked. Nathan forces the elevator to go crazy which kills the man.

Nathan has now used most of his 2gig and can not do much.

How does Upload season 1, episode 10, “Freeyond” end?

Nora tells her father everything — that Nathan betrayed his friend for money and got himself murdered.

Nora’s father offers to take her off the grid, unless… it’s not over between her and Nathan. Nora rings him and tells Nathan that he’s not the “bad guy” and they need to uncover this conspiracy. Nathan can barely talk because of the low memory while Nora explains that she does not want to walk away and that she wants to take the risk and… that she loves him. But he doesn’t say it back — his 2gig is up and a single tear leaves his eye.

An upset Nora heads away from the city with Bryant, thinking Nathan ignored her.

Episode 10 ends with the scenario getting worse for Nathan — Ingrid visits him and gives Nathan 1gig. She explains to Nathan that she Uploaded for him — Nathan is instantly angry, losing the 1gig straight away.

This is an obvious tie-in for a second season.
