This recap of Amazon Original series Upload season 1, episode 3, “The Funeral” contains significant spoilers.
How did Upload season 1, episode 3, “The Funeral” start?
Bubbling in the news is a new solution called Download that does the opposite to Upload — it downloads someone’s consciousness into a clone body. Meanwhile, Nathan is getting ready and Ingrid is being her usual controlling self, choosing his outfit, and how the day pans out.
They both watch the first Download together on the news, but it fails, with the man’s head exploding — gone forever.
How does the funeral go?
Well, it’s not great for Nathan in Episode 3 — at the start, he interacts with Ingrid and his family but Jamie has not shown up to his surprise. It’s understandably emotional for him.
Nora attends the funeral but views it from a different location and pretends to be a former colleague — some of his exes state how amazing he was. The funeral has a slideshow of his memories that are not the best, with the last memory looking very fuzzy.
The priest at the funeral made Nathan sound immature — Ingrid prepared the speech.
Nathan’s mother tells him his equity shares handed to her wasn’t much due to his business never launching completely.
It’s almost like something fishy is afoot.
Indeed there is something not quite right. Fran Booth, Nathan’s cousin, attends the funeral and she has decided to investigate his death. She asks Ingrid questions about Nathan’s Upload, stating his vitals at the hospital were improving.
Ingrid dismisses Fran and walks off to deliver a speech, but surprisingly it is not about Nathan, it’s about the man who died from the Download project. Nathan asks if any of his friends would like to make a speech or a eulogy but they’ve either already left or did not turn up.
Nathan tells Ingrid that his funeral “sucks” and she’s made all the decisions. Ingrid turns on him and threatens to delete Nathan from Upload, stating she could easily go home with his friend Derek, accusing him of being ungrateful. Nathan backtracks and apologizes.
Fran then speaks to Nathan to get more information on his death — he says he’s had memory problems recently and Fran ponders on that, stating his car had memory problems too.
How did Upload season 1, episode 3, “The Funeral” end?
Upload season 1, episode 3, “The Funeral” ends with Ingrid telling Nathan that she did not mean what she said in their little argument. It was a difficult apology to buy.
