This recap of Netflix series Dead to Me season 2, episode 8, “It Had To Be You” contains spoilers.

How does Dead to Me season 2, episode 8, “It Had To Be You” begin?

Jen speaks to Judy who is wallowing in whiskey. Judy is drunk and is trying to start an argument.

Charlie then bolsters it and asks why they had Steve’s car. Judy and Jen tell Charlie that Steve gave it to her for dropping out of the condo purchase.

Steve persists, asking why it was burned by someone and why can’t they go to the police. Jen lies even more, saying they cannot go to the police because Charlie drove the car and the police can’t know.

Jen is becoming sick of lying.

Judy tells Jen that she saw her kissing Ben and it is hypocritical and questions if they are not allowed to be happy again. Jen tells Judy nicely that she won’t stop her from being with Michelle as long as she doesn’t become leaky from the mouth.

So do Judy and Michelle make up?

Yes, it doesn’t take long for a drunken Judy to convince Michelle to kiss her and make up.

How is Ben in the aftermath of the vigil?

Ben does not remember kissing Jen in Dead to Me season 2, episode 8 — he was blackout drunk. He then tells Jen his parents want to sell because of Steve and they want Jen to be the realtor — the house is worth $10-15million, which will be a high commission.

Jen takes it on — it’s evidently too tempting for her. While touring the house Ben and Jen bond more; this is going to end badly.

Why does Judy go to the hospital?

Michelle’s mother has had a stroke so she goes in to offer her support. Perez shows up and reveals that Judy is a riptide. She reveals her ex-fiance is missing and possibly dead. Michelle tells them both she wants to be alone.

Judy returns to the hospital later and asks Perez if Michelle’s mother is okay — she’s on life support and Perez is very upset. Judy tells Perez that Michelle is lucky to have her and hands Perez some tissues.

I wonder if Perez will soften towards Judy.

Vandalism on Jen’s house…

When Jen returns home, someone has graffitied on her garage door, “I know what you did”. She heads over to Karen’s house and she sees the footage and tells Karen’s husband to delete it all — it was Parker. When she asks Charlie why Parker would do such a thing, Charlie explains that he’s seeing someone else. Jen tells Charlie to “not be that guy” and asks him to apologize to Parker.

How does Dead to Me season 2, episode 8, “It Had To Be You” end?

Parker rings Nick on the tip line to give him information. Charlie also rings Hastings but puts the phone down. Judy tries to call her mother Eleanor.

A lot of phone calls happening.

Ben heads over to Jen’s house and reveals he did know that he kissed her when drunk and that he’s wanted to kiss her for a long time. The pair kiss again and Ben enters the house.

Dead to Me season 2, episode 8, “It Had To Be You” keeps the story at a pivotal moment, not letting up and hopefully leading to a grand finale.
