The King: Eternal Monarch recaps

How does The King: Eternal Monarch episode 10 begin?

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 reveals that all is to play for now — the lighter tone is nearly removed as characters from both worlds need to fight in an intense chapter. It begins with Sin-jae still moping to himself while on vacation. A flashback shows him admiring Tae-eul eating a chicken kebab. He’s wondering if his past is a dream and debates whether Kang Hyeon-min is a memory. His therapist suggests delusions. Tae-eul finds him on his vacation. She tells him that Lee Sang-do is alive and he and Jang Yeon-ji have something in common; there’s another world where the same faces exist. She can’t report crimes from another world. Tae-eul asks for help but Sae-jin calls it delusional.

Lee Gon returns to the Republic of Korea for a moment and Tae-eul sobs and embraces him. They’ve missed each other a lot. Lee Gon returns to the Republic of Corea just in time for Lunar year. He does his usual King’s speech.

Lunar Year midnight

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 takes us back to Lunar Year midnight where Lee Lim returns to the Kingdom of Corea. He approaches Lee Lim in the city and calls him a traitor. Lee Gon’s men and the police arrive and point guns at him. Eun-sup gets in the way of gunfire so Lee Gon isn’t hurt. Lee Lim has his followers with him and he walks off with them. Lee Gon tells his men not to chase them — he wants no more casualties and he wants all CCTV deleted. Word has spread quickly of a rumor that Lee Lim has been sighted. Prime Minister Koo is curious and wants to look into what’s going on. Luckily, Eun-sup is alive with a few injuries. Eun-sup tells Lee Gon that Jo Yeong told him to protect him at all costs.

Lee Gon returns to the palace. Lady Noh asks if it is true that he saw Lee Lim. Lee Gon reveals that he hasn’t aged at all. The Prime Minister rings Lee Gon about Lee Lim and asks if it was him or his followers. Lee Gon tells Prime Minister Koo that it was an act of terrorism and she should serve to protect the people. Press conferences follow with media asking if Lee Lim is alive but the press reiterates it was just Lee Lim’s followers and Lee Gon chased them. Propaganda is clearly served in episode 10.

Passing it to the next in line

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 sees Lee Gon taking desperate measures to protect his monarch while he is on a mission. Lee Gon visits Prince Bueyeong; he tells him that Lee Lim hasn’t aged and he must track him down — he states the confrontation won’t happen in the Kingdom of Corea. As Buyeong is second in line, he must take charge at the palace.

Sae-jin faces the truth

Tae-eul tells Sae-jin about the other world; what is different and what is the same. She said she looked for Sae-jin’s alternate self and he could not find him. Sae-jin slyly says “I was here”. Sae-jin heads to the memorial of the little boy that was killed in the Republic of Korea — it was his alternate self. He reveals he’s from another world but he isn’t sure who he is yet. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Koo speaks to one of Lee Lim’s followers in prison and states all the CCTV is gone. She tells him if he finds the footage he will be released.

Goodbye Prince Bueyeong

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 serves another tragedy that changes the story forever and intensifies the stakes. Lee Lim visits Prince Buyeong. He killed all the guards on the way in. Lee Lim wants the King’s ring as he is next in line and claims it is rightfully his. The Prince tells him to put down the ring. Lee Lim starts strangling him and then kills him slowly while taunting him. Lee Gon hears of the news of Prince Buyeong’s death. Lee Gon is devastated and Lady Noh collapses in grief. This is a big death in the story — Lee Lim has gone for family.

How does The King: Eternal Monarch episode 10 end?

As we near the end, Lee Gon visits Tae-eul. He asks how she had been — it’s been a while since they last saw each other this time. Lee Gon gives her some flowers and he tells her he has to go back immediately and then tells her he loves her, deeply. As they kiss and embrace, tears flow down both of their faces. Tae-eul sobs uncontrollably because he has to leave so suddenly again and collapses to the ground.

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 is an intense 60-minutes as things change between both worlds forever as Lee Lim’s presence is felt.
