This recap of Netflix Korean series The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 contains spoilers.

How does The King: Eternal Monarch episode 10 begin?

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 reveals that all is to play for now — the lighter tone is nearly removed as characters from both worlds need to fight in an intense chapter. It begins with Sin-jae still moping to himself while on vacation. A flashback shows him admiring Tae-eul eating a chicken kebab. He’s wondering if his past is a dream and debates whether Kang Hyeon-min is a memory. His therapist suggests delusions. Tae-eul finds him on his vacation. She tells him that Lee Sang-do is alive and he and Jang Yeon-ji have something in common; there’s another world where the same faces exist. She can’t report crimes from another world. Tae-eul asks for help but Sae-jin calls it delusional.

Lee Gon returns to the Republic of Korea for a moment and Tae-eul sobs and embraces him. They’ve missed each other a lot. Lee Gon returns to the Republic of Corea just in time for Lunar year. He does his usual King’s speech.

Lunar Year midnight

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 takes us back to Lunar Year midnight where Lee Lim returns to the Kingdom of Corea. He approaches Lee Lim in the city and calls him a traitor. Lee Gon’s men and the police arrive and point guns at him. Eun-sup gets in the way of gunfire so Lee Gon isn’t hurt. Lee Lim has his followers with him and he walks off with them. Lee Gon tells his men not to chase them — he wants no more casualties and he wants all CCTV deleted. Word has spread quickly of a rumor that Lee Lim has been sighted. Prime Minister Koo is curious and wants to look into what’s going on. Luckily, Eun-sup is alive with a few injuries. Eun-sup tells Lee Gon that Jo Yeong told him to protect him at all costs.

Lee Gon returns to the palace. Lady Noh asks if it is true that he saw Lee Lim. Lee Gon reveals that he hasn’t aged at all. The Prime Minister rings Lee Gon about Lee Lim and asks if it was him or his followers. Lee Gon tells Prime Minister Koo that it was an act of terrorism and she should serve to protect the people. Press conferences follow with media asking if Lee Lim is alive but the press reiterates it was just Lee Lim’s followers and Lee Gon chased them. Propaganda is clearly served in episode 10.

Passing it to the next in line

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 sees Lee Gon taking desperate measures to protect his monarch while he is on a mission. Lee Gon visits Prince Bueyeong; he tells him that Lee Lim hasn’t aged and he must track him down — he states the confrontation won’t happen in the Kingdom of Corea. As Buyeong is second in line, he must take charge at the palace.

Sae-jin faces the truth

Tae-eul tells Sae-jin about the other world; what is different and what is the same. She said she looked for Sae-jin’s alternate self and he could not find him. Sae-jin slyly says “I was here”. Sae-jin heads to the memorial of the little boy that was killed in the Republic of Korea — it was his alternate self. He reveals he’s from another world but he isn’t sure who he is yet. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Koo speaks to one of Lee Lim’s followers in prison and states all the CCTV is gone. She tells him if he finds the footage he will be released.

Goodbye Prince Bueyeong

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 serves another tragedy that changes the story forever and intensifies the stakes. Lee Lim visits Prince Buyeong. He killed all the guards on the way in. Lee Lim wants the King’s ring as he is next in line and claims it is rightfully his. The Prince tells him to put down the ring. Lee Lim starts strangling him and then kills him slowly while taunting him. Lee Gon hears of the news of Prince Buyeong’s death. Lee Gon is devastated and Lady Noh collapses in grief. This is a big death in the story — Lee Lim has gone for family.

How does The King: Eternal Monarch episode 10 end?

As we near the end, Lee Gon visits Tae-eul. He asks how she had been — it’s been a while since they last saw each other this time. Lee Gon gives her some flowers and he tells her he has to go back immediately and then tells her he loves her, deeply. As they kiss and embrace, tears flow down both of their faces. Tae-eul sobs uncontrollably because he has to leave so suddenly again and collapses to the ground.

The King: Eternal Monarch season 1, episode 10 is an intense 60-minutes as things change between both worlds forever as Lee Lim’s presence is felt.

Other points
  • Jo Yeong has to prepare for Eun-sup’s family for Lunar year. He’s struggling to keep up with the pace with some of the kids saying he’s too cool now.
  • Lady Noh tells Prime Minister Koo that she’s looking for violent love, which is why she has never helped her with Lee Gon.

I completely missed that to be honest. I thought they were rehashing previous plot points.

Please discuss. I am so confused of what’s going on. There seems to be a different timeline but unsure which is which.

I kinda question that out when Luna was feeding the cat and stated she was borrowing the cats name. Does it make sense? Have you ever think that the boy reading and playing yoyo could have been the actual joker in these two worlds?

I noticed that too, the video footage he was watching with the boy had the date stamp. That boy looking at the camera and the storm hits… his conversation later with Lee Lim, he just brushed him off even though he was his elder… connects somehow with the flute and the mystery of both worlds? I’m betting he’s an old sage.
Whats with the place where time stops? It had 1 balloon at first now it has many? Loving the show!

I thought so too…but then present day tae-eul said to yeong – ” Ahh.. that’s why he brought change( to call her
      from the payphone)”

If it were future tae-eul in the episode’s beginning then present day tae-eul should not have known this bit of information.

Thank you for reading. I think there will be another tragic death in the next two. I think war between both worlds will really heat up in Episode 13 & 14

The old lady in the Kingdom of Korea is Tae Eul. (I’m probably wrong) Tae Eul chased after Lee Gon after the kiss. But when she got through the portal she timed traveled instead and ended up in the past. Lee Gon wasn’t born yet. If you notice the gun she waS holding in the preview, it was an old revolver. When she was calling the palace she can’t get through because Lee Gon did not exist yet.

The book Lee Gon took from the Republic of Korea was written by Tae Eul, which was the old lady. The person who “stole” Tae Eul’s ID is the old lady herself.

Yes, the Lee Gon that showed up in Tae Eli’s front yard is the Lee Gond from the future. He had spent so much time in that “odd in between space”, until he finally realized that it was all too late.

The flowers Lee Gon gave Tae Eul was the flowers she planted in that time void space. And Luna is “Future” Tae Eul.

Tae Eul and Lee Gon had never met in the present, it was either in the future or past. If I’m right that the old lady in the place is Tae Eul, then that’s the only time they have or will ever meet in the present.

That’s interesting – when you say the old lady – do you mean Lady Noh?

        I’m sorry. Yes, Lady Noh!

There was a little piece in episode 10 when lady Noh was reading the book. It sounded like the story of Tae Eul always waiting for Lee Gon by the Gate.

And remember when Lee Gon cooked for her and he said, he cooked that meal for one and only one person and didn’t want to tell her. It was her whom he cooked that meal for. Perhaps Lee Gon already knew or had already ran that episode in their life once twice or many times before. Which make sense because when he went to war Lee Gon was so eager to get the war over with and was so determined that they will win.

Did you also notice towards the end of the episode when all of a sudden there were sooooo many red balloons. I think Lee Gon kept going back and kept changing the past in hopes for a different future.

That’s certainly a credible theory that Lady Noh is Tae-eul. With 6 episodes to go, they have a lot of loose ends to tie up!

If tae eul time travelled and ended up in the past, how it happened that Lee Gon found her whereabouts and saved her if he doesnt exists that time. I recalled, he was watching the video while she was being chased (drinking water and tying her hair) . Too many confusing facts, i think 13th and 14th ep should give a clear picture
