How does Can You Hear Me? season 1, episode 5, “Our Silences” open?

Episode 5 opens with Ada helping her mother leave the house she’s been evicted from. Marcel shows up with his uncle to help them move. Fabiola insists that Carolanne must keep the baby and enforces her beliefs on her. Ada calls Fabiola a moron and chases after Carolanne after the pair argue. At work, Fabiola is still involving herself with Jean-Michel who asks for weed — she gets upset and he asks her what is wrong and gives her a hug and a kiss; they end up having sex. While going down on her, Fabiola breaks Jean-Michel’s nose by accident.

Bleeding

After throwing up on her bed and clothes, Carolanne goes to the laundrette. She’s in dire straights evidently. While sorting out the clothes, she starts bleeding. Ada goes for her therapy session; she talks about her singing and how when she does it alone she isn’t as good. She then goes into how her friends are fighting and that they only have each other. The therapist states Ada’s friends are pillars. Ada sees the barman after and admits to having issues.

While walking through the streets, Ada sees Pretzel is upset as she’s lost her necklace down the drain. Ada manages to get it out from the drain. Pretzel explains it’s a memento — it used to be her sister’s necklace. As for Carolanne, she’s sat on the toilet crying and she’s rings Ada for help. Fabiola leaves Jean-Michel at the pharmacy to head to the launderette with Ada to help Carolanne. Carolanne says the harsh words of “even ‘it’ didn’t want me”. Her friends reassure her and promise to make her forget. Ada flushes the toilet. Episode 5 presents the trauma of miscarriage and the importance of support.
