How does Love, Victor season 1, episode 1, “Welcome to Creekwood” open?
Episode 1 begins with Victor messaging Simon saying they don’t know each other but he knows his story — “Screw you for having accepting parents”. It then flits to 24 hours earlier where Victor and his family move to Atlanta in a new home. Felix welcomes them inside and offers to drop them off at Creekwood, and provides a walkie talkie. Victor narrates continuing his message to Simon, stating he looked forward to a new start as in Texas, it was difficult to be different. Love, Victor season 1, episode 1, “Welcome to Creekwood” sees Victor wanting to figure out who he really is.
Blank canvas
Victor attends his first day at Creekwood as the new kid. Felix tells him he has a blank canvas and he can define who he wants to be. He asks the Principal if people accept gay people at Creekwood and she enthusiastically says yes. Lake and Mia introduce themselves to Victor — Lake wants to know if Felix has a girlfriend back at home. This was Victor’s chance to define who he is, but he backs out, claiming he doesn’t have a girlfriend.
Crush
Victor has his first crush when he sees Benji who introduces himself — they speak briefly about sneakers before Benji walks off and Felix confirms that he is gay. There’s no time for Victor to breathe as, in the next scene, he impresses the basketball coach who wants him to join the team… for $500. Love, Victor season 1, episode 1, “Welcome to Creekwood” sees Victor adjusting to the new environment at breakneck speed.
You are poor
Victor is annoyed at teammate Andrew as he set up a GoFundMe to help pay for his basketball fees to embarrass him. Tensions flare up, with Andrew calling mocking him for being poor. Victor is now known as the kid with a “short fuse” and he tells Felix to leave him alone.
Winter Carnival
When Victor comes home, he learns that his sister Pilar has caused trouble at the school — Victor defends her, stating she needs time to adjust. He lies to his parents and says his first day at school was great. Victor radios into Felix apologizing, asking if he’d like to go to the Winter Carnival.
Hope
While at the carnival, Simon messages Victor being understanding and hoping that his family understands him fully one day and that the Creekwood community supports him. Simon also hopes Victor finds a love story at Creekwood: “I’m here if you need me — Love, Simon”.
How does Love, Victor season 1, episode 1, “Welcome to Creekwood” end?
As episode 1 ends, Victor is hopeful of making his own story and gets on the Ferris wheel with Mia. His message from Simon has given him hope after a difficult first day. Episode 1 is about adjustment and starting the journey to defining one’s self.
