How does Love, Victor season 1, episode 4, “The Truth Hurts” open?

Episode 4 begins with Victor messaging Simon saying he is fine with Benji having a boyfriend because now he can focus on Mia. Victor also states that basketball is going well and the family is good. During dinner, which Felix attends, Pilar does a blessing and calls her mother nasty, evidently referencing Roger, the man who messaged her.

Family problems

Pilar tells Victor that their mother Isabel has had an affair. Victor refuses to believe it and calls it spam. Roger continues messaging his mother on the profile Pilar set up. “Yes, Simon — everything is going great”. Meanwhile, Mia’s father returns home and gives her a gift in Paris and hints that he has a new romance with Veronica and she’d like for her to meet her. Mia confides with her friends about her mother who left. Love, Victor season 1, episode 4, “The Truth Hurts” is all about family problems.

I know that guy

Mia is introduced to Veronica; Lake is there to help Mia get out of the situation when she’s ready. Mia’s father uses the word “love”. Meanwhile, Victor and Pilar go to a conference where Roger plans to meet their mother. At the conference, Victor recognizes one of the men, stating it was his father’s former boss and tells Pilar that they need to leave.

I’m not trying to replace your mother

Veronica seems like a genuine person but Mia is not sure about her and wants to get to the bottom of it. She asks Veronica why she’s never been married and is confrontational — Veronica states she was addicted to her work. Mia keeps on asking personal questions and her father gets angry. Veronica tells Mia she isn’t trying to replace her mother and Mia walks off. Love, Victor season 1, episode 4, “The Truth Hurts” shows Mia to be the jealous daughter, holding on to the past.

Get your head into the game

It’s a big game of basketball at Creekwood and the coach believes they can win. Victor is affected that his parents are there and can’t get his head into the game. Victor breaches a rule so his coach benches him. His mother Isabel runs after him and Victor raises how she has had an affair with her father’s former boss. His father joins the conversation saying he knows about the affair and that they are not discussing it in the car park.

Family

A family meeting is set up — the father states they are not perfect and love each other. The mother says that what happened with Roger is that they became friends during piano lessons — she liked having someone who had an interest in her. Isabel admits that what she did was wrong and that she loves their father more than everything. They reveal that they moved to have a “fresh start” due to the affair. Pilar and Victor are annoyed that this is the reason they moved. Love, Victor season 1, episode 4, “The Truth Hurts” shows the family going through a fragile period, with the truths coming out.

I wasn’t enough

Victor confides with Mia about his parents; Mia admits that her mother is not an addict and that she felt alone when she had a baby which is why she left — no explanation, no goodbye. Mia tells people that her mother is an addict because she doesn’t want to admit that she wasn’t enough to stay. “Lying doesn’t hurt as much”. Mia reassures Victor, stating that her mother loves him and he should forgive her. Victor tells Mia that her mother was an idiot for not staying around and then they kiss.
