Vanya was definitely a factor of the apocalypse in Season 1 and it doesn’t even look like she’s involved in doomsday in Season 2. I mean, how could Vanya cause a nuclear war between the USA and Russia? Seems unlikely right? Well as things progress in the story there is a claim that Vanya caused it all. Is Vanya the reason for the apocalypse in The Umbrella Academy Season 2?

Let’s discuss the interrogation

In Season 2, the FBI suspects that Vanya is a Russian communist agent after an altercation with the police while trying to flee with Sissy. The FBI interrogates her for hours, which leads to torture, activating her powers. They end up giving Vanya hallucinogens which give her a trip that heightens her powers even more. The FBI has zero understanding of what they seem to be dealing with — they are paranoid due to the Russians.

What has that got to do with the USA and Russia starting nuclear war?

While Diego is at The Commission, he watches a period of time where President Kennedy does NOT get shot. The reason Kennedy does not get shot is that the FBI building behind his motorcade blows up, encouraging his team to drive off swiftly, recognizing that there is a security threat. The building blows up with blue-type energy shockwaves — it’s the color of Vanya’s powers. Her powers exploded killing many of the people inside.

It must be Russia?

The Americans blamed Russia for the attack and tensions heighten between both countries. What follows is not a Cold War, but World War Three that wipes out the world and causes an apocalypse.

Although Vanya did not directly cause the apocalypse, she is 100% the trigger. It’s almost like the character is cursed.
