Summary

Episode 4 brings more betrayals and shocking moments. Once again, the performances are spot on, and the series is doing marvellously well in keeping twists at bay.

This recap of Netflix K-drama series Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 4 contains significant spoilers.

Well, episode 4 was heading for a less significant chapter until the shocking final scenes. The series enjoys betrayal and flawed marriages so far, which makes any episode possible of popcorn-worthy drama…

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 4 begins with Boo Hye-rung about to throw water over Sa-hyeon, but she changes her mind — let’s admit it, we all wish she did as it certainly looked like she would in episode 3. On the way back to the sink, her heel snaps and she falls over, waking up Sa-hyeon, and getting water all over the floor. The next day, Boo Hye-rung goes into the radio station and hosts her show. Pan Mun-ho listens to make sure she is okay; Boo Hye-rung talks about the importance of not giving up on people so easily, which sounds like a hint to her marriage. At the end of the segment, she forgets the engineer’s name — Seo Ban. She calls him Mr Seo instead.

Afterwards, Boo Hye-rung apologises to Sa Pi-young and Lee Si-eun for messing up the end of the show. The conversation turns to children and Sa Pi-young and Lee Si-eun tell Boo Hye-rung having a baby is a miracle. There’s plenty of hints so far that Boo Hye-rung should use children to save her marriage, but she has chosen a childless life.

Lee Si-eun arranges a family meal

When Lee Si-eun gets home, she makes a large family meal, including Park Hae-ryun’s favourite meal. The children seem happy that they are all together. The family feel relaxed for the first time since the series began, giving hope that they can turn it around.

Sa-hyeon decides to stay at his parent’s home for dinner

Sa-hyeon continues his cowardly ways in Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 4, doing everything he can to avoid the storm. But the storm is here to stay; he’s chosen his bed, and now he has to lay in it. Sa-hyeon does not return home, and he decides to stay over at his parents home for dinner. Boo Hye-rung sits at home and looks at the clock, waiting for him. Pan Mun-ho is disappointed that Sa-hyeon can eat so freely after he’s left his wife at home, but his mother seems to want him to eat. Pan Mun-ho threatens to take away his inheritance. Just take it!

Sa-hyeon drops the bombshell on his mother

When the father runs out on an errand, Sa-hyeon tells his mother that the woman he’s seeing his pregnant and asks for her help. He tells her he had a conception dream. Sa-hyeon also explains how Boo Hye-rung did not want children, but his mother reminds her son that he agreed to a childless marriage. But Sa-hyeon is adamant in having a divorce because he doesn’t love Boo Hye-rung anymore. He accuses his mother in never loving his father. This scene indicates how young people give up marriages so easily and claim they have fallen out of love as the ultimate justification — maybe this series is highlighting how accessible and easy it is to get married these days, without considering the consequences.

At 3 am, Boo Hye-rung is angry because Sa-hyeon is sleeping in the spare room. She attacks him with a pillow and blames him for her messing on the show.

Pan Mun-ho learns about the baby

The next day, Pan Mun-ho learns that the woman Sa-hyeon is seeing is pregnant. His wife notes that Boo Hye-rung didn’t even want children, but Pa Mun-ho does not feel comfortable to kick her to the curb; he feels completely betrayed.

Cold noodles and karaoke

While the series focuses on the main couples, on the sidelines, there is a couples war going on.

Dong-mi and her husband go to a restaurant for cold noodles, and Pan Mun-ho and his wife Ye-jeong end up joining them. The cold war between the couples continues as they test each other out by showing off their marriages and the quirks. Afterwards, both couples head to a karaoke bar; as Dong-mi sings a sad song, Pan Mun-ho gets emotional. This doesn’t feel like it’s going to end well — it has drama written all over it.

The sonogram photo

Sa-hyeon shows his parents the sonogram photo. He accepts the cards he has dealt and that a fortune teller once predicted he would get married twice. Pan Mun-ho and Ye-jeong are curious about who this woman is. Sa-hyeon wants to resolve the issue as soon as possible. This is another episode where it is not confirmed exactly the woman Sa-hyeon is seeing, but we can make a weighted guess based on the three additional female characters they keep slipping into the odd scene.

Park Hae-ryun loves his wife and mistress

Park Hae-ryun goes for a drink with his doctor. The doctor asks him if his wife knows if he has a mistress and advises to leave his wife immediately if she’s done nothing wrong; he has been seeing her for a year. Park Hae-ryun admits he is in a dilemma because he loves both his wife and mistress. This feels selfish; if he loves both of them, then the unselfish thing to do is to stay with his wife; he’s hurting them both in the process by keeping the situation as it is.

Yu-sin has dinner with the mother-in-law

Yu-sin rings Sa Pi-young and tells her to forgive him and that he will explain later. He goes to her mother’s apartment to have dinner with her. He gives her flowers. He tells his wife later that he had dinner with her mother. Sa Pi-young seems okay with it. Yu-sin tells her he is trying to get her mother to date someone. It feels like Yu-sin understands that Pi-young will regret not bringing her mother into the family, and due to his love for his wife, he wants to avoid that as best as possible.

The ending

Well, let’s admit, this ending was not on our predictions; this is a shocking, evil ending.

Dong-mi and Gi-rim go to the cinemas together and watch a funny film. During the film, Gi-rim goes into cardiac arrest; Dong-mi sees and doesn’t seem to react as he dies by her side — he’s trying his best to ask her for help. Dong-mi’s eyes well up as she continues watching the film; there’s a slight smile on her face as tears flow down her face. Did she allow Dong-mi to die because Pan Mun-ho has returned in her life? It’s even more tragic than before the film, Gi-rim noticed that there were defibrillators in the cinemas, so she could have easily attempted to save him.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 4 brings more betrayals and shocking moments. Once again, the performances are spot on, and the series is doing marvellously well in keeping twists at bay.
