As the k-drama series reaches the halfway stage, it’s decided to give the audience context with a flashback chapter; it also looks like the 10th chapter will be doing the same.
We are back on the plane in episode 9 — a straight continuation from the end of episode 8. Yu-sin recognizes A Min, and there’s a strange tension between them; he’s her doctor. A flashback begins with both characters on the plane 10 months ago; they are in first-class and on their way back to Korea. A Min orders wine, but she’s nervous around Yu-sin as she sits next to him, but it’s completely innocent at this point — just two passengers boarding the plane.
Boo Hye-rung is worried about Sa-hyeon’s weight
Continuing the flashback, Boo Hye-rung and Sa-hyeon wake up together in bed. She pesters her husband about keeping up with his fitness and wonders if work will start bombarding him. She doesn’t want her husband to look like a middle-aged man. Sa-hyeon is not as bothered and states he’d still hug her if she were chubby.
At a cafe, Sa-hyeon sees a fit, healthy man, and he asks him if he works out — he asks for a personal trainer to recommend. Sa-hyeon meets the personal trainer he was recommended, and in the gym, he sees Song Won, and he’s mesmerized by her. We can assume this is who he has his affair with.
Yu-sin, A Min and the Apple
Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 9 shows how a potential affair started between A Min and Yu-sin.
On the plane, Yu-sin falls asleep, and as A Min tries to walk down the aisle, he trips her over by accident. He wakes up and asks for assistance to help her with a little cut. Yu-sin keeps on asking A Min if she’s injured. Eventually, the tension eases, and they talk to each other on the plane bar. Yu-sin watches her intently as she eats an apple and takes in her appearances; he begins daydreaming and imagines kissing her but then snaps out of it.
Yu-sin helps A Min medically before they land
Near the end of the flight, Yu-sin offers to give A Min first aid as she’s suffering from acute indigestion. He squeezes her hands and tells her she’s gotten too stressed from trying to eat too quietly. A Min learns that Yu-sin is a psychiatrist. They learn each other’s ages, and both believe they look younger. Yu-sin talks about how he lost his wedding ring recently, and he is getting a new one with the same design. Many will have rolled their eyes at this claim.
Enjoying a restaurant together
When they arrive at the airport, A Min’s driver doesn’t show up, and Yu-sin offers to drive her. They agree to go to a restaurant to eat. In the bathroom, Yu-sin rings Sa Pi-young and tells her he misses her. Back at the table, A Min asks if his wife doesn’t want him home but he tells her not to worry as she’s at a gathering. It’s strange how Yu-sin would rather spend time with a stranger than his own wife, who is happily waiting for him at home.
Park Hae-ryun’s 50th birthday
As we reach the halfway stage, Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) episode 9 shows how a family was in a completely different place 10 months ago.
Park Hae-ryun, Lee Si-eun and the family celebrate the father’s 50th birthday. It’s a normal time with unity amongst them. Lee Si-eun asks for her husband’s car as she needs it and that he doesn’t walk enough. He agrees. On the way out, Lee Si-eun shows that she’s gotten Park Hae-ryun a new car for his birthday. The family is in complete shock. It’s awful to see how the family went from this to completely torn apart 10 months later.
A comfy ride home together
At the restaurant, A Min and Yu-sin continue to enjoy themselves and eventually treat themselves to wine. On the way home, they get a taxi, and A Min rests her head on his shoulder. She dreams of riding on a horse side by side with Yu-sin and smiles in her sleep. Yu-sin watches her sleep. The moment is over as A Min arrives at her address, and Yu-sin helps her inside with the suitcases. Yu-sin makes sure she is okay before leaving and tells her not to answer the door to strangers in her new apartment. He asks A Min to send him a text when she’s done unpacking — he references his business card. They keep daydreaming and imagine hugging each other.
Again, it’s clear that Yu-sin has more intentions for A Min; the fact that he cares about her so much is telling — he’s making an absurd effort for a stranger.
The ending
Yu-sin arrives home, and Sa Pi-young wonders why he’s so late. He states he had one glass of red wine. His wife and daughter were expecting a gift from his travels, but he explains to Ji-a that she already has everything she needs — he lectures her that she should only ever buy things that she needs. He reminds her that she’s living a life of luxury.
In the evening, Boo Hye-rung enjoys wine with friends, and she sees Seo Ban. She clearly likes his presence. As the night ends, Boo Hye-rung talks to Seo Ban and tells him that they will be working together. She’s absolutely wasted as she talks to him. One of Boo Hye-rung’s friends calls him handsome. Sa-hyeon turns up to take her home, and as he takes her away, Boo Hye-rung calls Seo Ban “cold”. As Seo Ban leaves the restaurant, he runs into Ga-bin, and the dramatic music hits.
