“Foxy and Hare” plays out almost entirely as an extended chase sequence, as the girls begin to turn the tables on their pursuers.

This recap of Sky Rojo season 1, episode 6, “Foxy and Hare”, contains spoilers.

Sky Rojo episode 6 is almost entirely an extended chase sequence, the kind of thing that’d be contracted to just a few minutes in most shows. Here, as with the previous episode, Pina delights in honing in on that hook, using the space of a full episode to maximize tension and mix in character development and plotting. Sidelining Moises and Christian almost entirely, “Foxy and Hare” instead focuses on the newly reunited girls and Romeo himself, mostly thanks to a chance encounter that leads to crazier and crazier places.

The episode begins, though, with the girls getting showered at a gas station, preparing to become masters of their own destiny. But things don’t quite work out like that. When a phone starts ringing in the trunk, they realize that the passerby Christian shot in the head is still alive. Since the evidence points directly to them, they can’t just abandon him, so they elect instead to take him to the hospital. When they arrive, they just happen to see Romeo, strapped into a wheelchair, being wheeled into an ambulance.

Through flashbacks, “Foxy and Hare” also chronicles the development of Romeo’s relationship with Coral, adding weight to a remark that Christian makes when he grills Moi about his relationship with Coral. We see him asking her to tutor his children, but what he’s really asking for is for her to spend time with his girls. His wife is dying of cancer, undergoing chemo, losing her hair, and by the time she gets home, she doesn’t have the energy to spare. But in inviting Coral into his home, in beginning to see her as his partner, almost as the mother of his children, Romeo breaks his own personal rules. Sky Rojo episode 6 shows he got too close.

This partly explains why, at the sight of Coral, Romeo and his goon Beefcake hijack an ambulance and give chase, opening fire on the girls’ car right outside the hospital. This is what forms much of the episode, Romeo and Beefcake in pursuit while fighting off the brave paramedic, and the girls fleeing. Until, suddenly, they decide not to flee. Gina gives a great speech about the endless, inescapable hamster wheel of the life they lead, and Wendy counters, “Let’s break the f*cking wheel then.” Are they rabbits, or foxes? That’s what they have to decide. And they decide to go on the hunt.

But is it as simple as that? Perhaps not for Coral. When they pull up next to the ambulance and she aims the revolver at Romeo, she elects to shoot the vehicle’s tires rather than him. As they drive away, Romeo calls her to threaten her further. Sky Rojo season 1, episode 6 ends with Coral figuring out that they’re being tracked through the phone since apparently, it’s the second time in her life someone has done that to her. You imagine she’d have thought of it sooner in that case.
