Summary

The Kominsky Method will be missed, but it bows out in style with plenty more chuckles and a plethora of emotional moments.

This review of Netflix’s The Kominsky Method season 3 contains no spoilers.

There’s a reason this series is celebrated; through performances and a tinge of comedy to back it up, The Kominsky Method knows how to sit in our brain. It’s a story about “life passing you by,” and ironically, time seemingly goes quick when you enjoy these characters. Although narratively irrelevant, watching this series fondly reminds of Gilmore Girls, where the conversation between characters is consuming. You can feel the atmosphere, the space between sentences, the turn in tone and mood. Series like this make you want to sit at the table with the characters and enjoy the experience.

Season 3 of The Kominsky Method finds Sandy at a new and different chapter in his life. One without his best friend Norman chewing in his ear about his next mishap. There’s a certain sadness, even though life still goes on. Thematically, the third season feels generationally weighted, with the older generation observing the younger adults in a fond and heartwarming way.

Season 3 hits home the shortfalls of regret and how time heals, regardless of any bitterness or misunderstandings that have befallen relationships in the past. The longer I write this review, the more I realize that The Kominsky Method is not a comedy at all; it’s a narrative window of how life and death works and encapsulates the meaning that we “only live once.”

Of course, the performances in season 3 do not decrease in quality at all. The cast appears to be enjoying themselves, and there’s an anticipation that this will be the last. It’s the end of the road of a great story, which could easily have expanded further seasons.

The Kominsky Method will be missed, but it bows out in style with plenty more chuckles and a plethora of emotional moments.
