This review of the Netflix film The House of Flowers: The Movie contains no spoilers.

Netflix has just dropped the highly anticipated spin-off movie, The House of Flowers: The Movie, which picks up right where we left off in the popular series. (With the De La Mora family running a flower business that looks professional to outsiders, but in reality, it’s masking loads of secrets.)

For those of you who don’t know or who haven’t already watched it, The House of Flowers (La Casa de las Flores) is one of Netflix’s pioneering Mexican series breakouts, which premiered on Netflix back in 2018. The series is a dark comedy about a dysfunctional Mexican family that runs a reputable flower shop.

Before some major surgery, the housemaid Delia reveals to Paulina that there is a secret treasure in the old family house; Paulina tricks her siblings into breaking into the house to find the treasure. The film is a drama-filled comedy, with themes of love, revenge, and family secrets. The plotline is well-executed, and the use of flashbacks throughout really helps drive the story if you haven’t watched the series. You can still watch this film without being confused by the backstory. This movie is definitely worth the watch, whether you’re a fan of the series or not. I also recommend the series. I must point out that Spanish is not a language I speak, so if you’re okay with subtitles, this is a must-watch.

The acting is of a high standard; each actor has great chemistry on screen, the comedy is well-timed and executed. What I really enjoyed is the fact that three grown adults break in – bringing out that inner, childish naughtiness and sense of adventure we sometimes feel our adult lives are missing.

I hope this spinoff will bring some closure and comfort to the fanbase. This film is one that the series deserved. Do you want to know the secret? Watch the film and find out — you will not be disappointed.
