Summary
Full of fun, entertainment, and sheer love for cats.
This review of the Netflix docuseries Cat People season 1 does not contain spoilers.
As a huge lover and proud cat-mum myself, I was very excited to hear about this documentary series. Dogs may be a man’s best friend, but cats are for everyone. This docu-series is created by Glen Zipper, who also made the popular Netflix documentary Dogs, which is another excellent watch.
Cat People explores our fascinating relationship with cats. We have been blessed with six episodes to stream, one after the other. Cat lovers have gained a somewhat negative stereotype of being lonely, mean, boring, and (my favourite) crazy cat people, and this documentary defies that. It breaks the stereotype down and shows what beautiful bonds people can have with their feline friends.
Cats are known for being greedy, angry, sassy animals, and this is why we love them. They can also be the best companions, sharing your dinner, your hobbies, and your home. (This may not be because it’s your choice). In this documentary, we see a cat that surfs, one that plays the drums, and an owner who throws elaborate birthday parties for her pet—people and cats living their best lives.
Each episode explores a cat’s story, their life, and their owner. They all have a fun, cheesy name; my favorite is episode 2, titled “The Cat Show Must Go On”, which features the Amazing Acro-Cats. Whilst these cats are the star of the show, training them isn’t easy. Although, “Catwabunga!”, about a cat who surfs, is a close second. From the opening montage with cats photo-shopped into photos with celebrities and famous artworks to rapping with and about your cat, this series proves that cat people are awesome. In fact, they are Cat-Tastic.
Full of fun, entertainment, and sheer love for cats, this docuseries is a fun watch for all, and if you don’t want to have a cat by the end of it, watch Dogs. That might suit you better. Either way, we all love our fur babies.
