It’s getting to that time of the month where Netflix begins teasing us on new upcoming films for the coming month, and this time it is Kate. The John Wick concept has been drummed for a while now, and I think Netflix wants in on the action (the trailer below is a fine example). This is certainly going to be a film based purely on the lead character; the poster and title suggest that Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be an exciting action figure that enthralls us all with great action shots.

Netflix has a knack for releasing action-popcorn thrillers, but there seems to be promise in this. We need more films that front a personality and have franchise potential. Kate maybe that next film.

Netflix film Kate release date and where to watch online

Kate will be released in select theatres AND Netflix on September 11, 2021. This is another dual release, which seems to be working well with Netflix at the moment. The select theatres are not specific — this tends to be a trend, so the best thing to do is check out your local cinema at the time to see if they are showing this film.

The official trailer

Well, this certainly has Atomic Blonde and John Wick vibes. This certainly has the potential to be popular if it lives up to the high-energy trailer. This whole concept that the lead character has 24 hours to get revenge because she has been poisoned is fascinating.

Netflix film Kate cast and production team

Directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan
Written by Umair Aleem
Produced by Bryan Unkeless, Kelly McCormick, Patrick Newall
Cast: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Tadanobu Asano, Miyavi, Michiel Huisman, introducing Miku Martineau, with Jun Kunimura, and Woody Harrelson

Noticeably, Woody Harrelson is starring in this feature film, but in the trailer, he appears to be in the background — this is certainly a film led by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and we cannot wait to see how badass the action sequences are going to be! Interestingly, the film is backed by the same producers as Atomic Blonde, so we can expect similar action sets. At the time the mentioned film was released, it was desirable due to the action shown in the trailer, and this certainly has the same marketability.

Netflix film Kate plot

“Meticulous and preternaturally skilled, Kate is the perfect specimen of a finely tuned assassin at the height of her game. But when she uncharacteristically blows an assignment targeting a member of the yakuza in Tokyo, she quickly discovers she’s been poisoned, a brutally slow execution that gives her less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her killers. As her body swiftly deteriorates, Kate forms an unlikely bond with the teenage daughter of one of her past victims. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson and directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Kate follows a burned assassin’s furious pursuit of one last self-appointed job.”
