Brand New Cherry Flavor episode 8 recap

The last episode of Brand New Cherry Flavor starts five months before the original timeline. Boro is giving a card reading to a middle-aged woman, where after stating that the devil isn’t necessarily bad, has visions of Lisa shooting the short movie, Mary removing her eye, and finally an image of the sofa. The middle-aged woman is about to leave the reading when Boro says, “does anyone know you’re here?”. It’s not hard to know what comes next.

Back to the present, Boro taunts the sofa before warning it to stay away from Lisa. With Lou’s eye’s deteriorating, he still has more pressing matters when Lisa comes to kill him. Having used the Bel-Air keyring (and through the use of the toad and her mother), Lisa has successfully found Lou. With nothing left to lose for Lou, he finally tells Lisa that he stole her movie as when she rejected him, it made him feel small.

Lou questions whether Lisa is the hero of her story? But before he can throw more insults at Lou, the worm (the one she made him snort) crawls in the corner of his eye. Lisa pulls the worm out, which as you can guess by watching, is a bit of an effort due to its size. But there’s no mystery as to what happens to the worm. As Jonathan eats it, Lou is left motionless on the sofa as blood pours from his eye.

At Boro’s yard, Lisa comes face to face with Ralph. But luckily for Lisa, Mary appears and stabs Ralph in the neck. Unluckily for Lisa, this means that Boro can turn him into a member of her undead crew. As Lisa becomes weak, Mary reveals that it was her who killed Code. But not one to go down without a fight, Lisa pokes Mary in the eye and is able to fight her off and leave the yard. Which is very lucky as Boro was trying to jump into Lisa’s body!

Shortly afterward, Lisa and Roy return to Boro’s yard. In the creepy scene, Lisa realises that the spirit/entity was trying to reach out because it’s her mother and, simply, doesn’t like Boro. Not one to be outdone, Boro calls in Roy. Despite Lisa instructing Roy to leave, he doesn’t, and when Boro clicks her tongue, Roy’s head gets ripped off by the undead. Boro and Mary heartlessly watch the undead feed on Roy’s body.

As Lisa breaks down, Jonathan munches on dog food and Christine is shown to have been killed by Ralph whilst Code, now undead, roams in Boro’s yard. Meeting with Alvin, Lisa finally has what she has wanted all season: A directing credit. Albeit, whilst serving Alvin, who self declares himself as her master. So is it worth it?

The ending

In a shock twist, Lou is still alive, although completely blind. At the hospital, he asks Lisa to turn the telly off. She doesn’t, but as she leaves, he wishes her good luck. Alvin attempts to contact Lisa; he gives her one more chance to meet potential actresses for roles in her movie.

Finally, in the yard, Boro has left Jennifer’s body and is now in control of Mary’s body. The body that belongs to Jennifer has no memory whilst Boro/Mary clicks her tongue and leaves, with the undead following her. Brand New Cherry Flavor concludes with Lisa taking a one-way flight back to Brazil. After which, she walks into the white lights of the airport.

Brand New Cherry Flavor was one of the strangest and wildest shows that Netflix has ever released. It was crazy from the get-go. A thoroughly enjoyable show.
