Mumbai Diaries 26/11 episode 8 recap

To open up episode 8, Kaushik’s wife Ananya tells him to come home — she’s concerned about his chances for survival as the stakes heighten. She then heads into the Palace Hotel with the NSG to get the rest of the hostages. Unfortunately, the terrorists were aware of this and let off more explosives. The escaping hostages are in a state of confusion, unsure on whether to leave or not as communications are down.

Episode 8 sees the Palace Hotel and Bombay General Hospital siege continue — there’s plenty of gunfire and desperate moments. Eventually, the terrorists are brought down, and the violent siege is over. Ahaan holds Chitra tightly as she has a bomb strapped to her — a bomb expert arrives and disarms it. Finally, there’s a period of calm.

If anything, the final episode is more about the events after the terrorism siege; as the hospital staff leaves the building after a three-day slog, they are applauded by crowds. Moments of despair are met with moments of bittersweet happiness. Diya is stricken with grief as her mother has died.

The series then recaps the Mumbai terror attack from 2008 — ranging from the heroes and those lost on that tragic day. Mansi publishes an article about the strength of Mumbai post the attacks, and the newsroom applauds her for getting to the core of the truth — she’s promoted to news anchor.

The ending

As the finale comes to an end, the hospital returns to normal, and it feels like business as usual. Ahaan wants a fresh start and pretends to introduce himself for the first time to Sujata. Kaushik also returns, and he states he will work unless he’s arrested or suspended. He gives his usual annual speech.

Episode 8 gives the audience the dynamic of terror versus humanity to round off a dramatic series.
