Summary

This is a horrifying story of a devastating murder that rocked Italy in 2011. Focusing mainly on the determined prosecutor, this Italian film provides more of an outlook of how the murder got solved than the emotional devastation it caused to Yara’s family.

Yara will stand out from other films on Netflix as it tells the true story of the horrifying murder of a 13-year-old girl, Yara Gambirasio. After leaving a sports center in Brenbate di Sopra (Italy) one evening, she never made it home. After three months pass by, the case takes a devastating turn when her body is found.

In a move that will arguably please the true-crime buffs who love to analyze the investigations, Yara delves more into the measures that a prosecutor, Letizia Ruggeri (Isabella Ragonese), had to endure to find the person responsible for Yara’s death.

Yara shows the desperate battle that had many Italian obsessing over in the early 2010s.

What makes the murder investigation stand out more than others is that this is the first time DNA was used in Italy in such a manner. This is because prior to Yara’s murder, there was no DNA database. S,o to help track down the person responsible for killing Yara, the investigators had to set about trying to create one. As to whether or not they are successful in doing so, you’ll have to watch Yara to find out.

Additionally, Isabella Ragonese, who plays the lead prosecutor, is fantastic in her role. Her performance is one that you won’t want to miss.

As the movie is based on real events, the drama doesn’t stop when the credits stop rolling. If the audience does a quick Google search after the 1hr 35mins movie ends, they’ll learn that there are still some unanswered questions.

This is an entertaining watch, that features great acting and writing. But as is the case with films based on real-life, it can be hard to watch at times.
