Reflection of You season 1, episode 15 recap

Picking up from episode 14, Heejoo finally folds. She knows she’s wrong but was too prideful to admit it until she needed Haewon’s help. Instead, she has to live with the words she once told Haewon about being pitied and struggling. If only she listened to her in the first place. Haewon herself even mentioned that she was the problem — “You were the problem the whole time. Your greed. You wanted to maintain stability in your life and satisfy your greed.” She goes on further to mention “you must have been so happy when you found out he lost his memories.” And of course, Heejoo told her to mind her business, it’s evident that she’s annoyed with Haewon.

Betrayal is a painful thing and we can see this through Haewon’s pain. “Do you know why betrayal is so cruel? Because betrayal makes you endlessly doubt the person you love the most. You ruined everyone. Me, Woojae, and even your husband.” Haewon’s mini yet powerful monologue was enough to keep the drama going, Heejoo’s at her lowest, and Haewon told her what she needed to hear. Mind you, this is the scene when Haewon drops Hyungseong home after a night in the bar. As she brings her husband home, she sniffs his clothes, worrying that maybe he cheated. In the morning, when he’s sober, she mentions that he didn’t need to drink with Haewon. She didn’t need to say that because he hurt her feelings by saying “don’t assume I cheated because you did.” And there it was! It’s clear that he’s rightfully disappointed by her infidelity and her constant probing was going to bounce back in her face.

We also learn that the surgery was a success for Mr. Lee, the abusive lawyer, but he’s met with some life-altering injuries from a loss of sensation and issues with speech. Minseo finally speaks her peace and confronts her mother from the emotional trauma she endured as a child. Furthermore, we learn that Heejoo chose to withdraw from the exhibition with Woojae but does it in the snarkiest way possible. She shows the curator the video of Woojae touching her, though it was staged inappropriately, it would be easy to see why the public would cancel him over it. By choosing to withdraw from the exhibition, she did it for herself and Hyungseong’s masculinity. She never cared for her family when she was lying and cheating, nothing really changed.

Lisa’s going through it too. After being ignored by her parents, they find out she’s self-harming. It’s almost as if she bears the burdens of her mother’s sins and wants to clear her mind. Her mother pulls her into the art studio, lifting her skirt to see the wounds on her thighs. Heejoo questions her, saying you have everything, a good home, and all that stuff but this is where the problem lies. Lisa has everything but attentive parents that actually care about her. Lisa finally offloads onto Heejoo, leaving her shocked. “I saw you with that man, I saw everything. That’s why I pretended I didn’t see anything. You disgust me, so repulsive, I hate you.” Like I mentioned in a previous recap, it would be Lisa to hurt her mother in ways Haewon could never and it happened.

Meanwhile, Woojae’s continuing to be a victim — like Heejoo — mentioning that he didn’t ruin Haewon’s life and how it’s better to be alone than miserable, which is true but he’s deflecting. He’s still keen on the divorce to which Haewon tells him “for us, a divorce means your death or mine.” I felt she was alluding to suicide or potentially killing him, given the end of the episode.

The ending

Towards the end, Lisa sees Haewon and Woojae around her house. Haewon’s outside, Woojae is with Heejoo in the art studio, where he ends up strangling her. Episode 15 ends with the classic psychopathic line people say in the movies, ‘if I can’t have you, nobody can have you.” I’m convinced Woojae was killed by Heejoo but Lisa sees the murder as she’s outside, hearing the restraint. We’ve finally reached the final episode and I’m excited to see what’s next and where the drama is taking us.
