Our Beloved Summer season 1, episode 2 recap
The dynamics between Yeonsu and Ung are clear as day in their relationship. Watching the episode it’s evident that Ung seems to care about her more as he’s adamant on being around her. Mind you, this was prior to their breakup and just after finishing high school. The second episode of Our Beloved Summer opens up in September 2011 with the pair talking about the future. From Ung’s perspective, he feels that Yeonsu is asking him strange questions about getting into college, she’s worried he might not get in and wonders how this might affect their relationship dynamic. Ung reassures her that no matter what he’ll be there. Meanwhile, from a viewers’ point of view, we can tell that he clearly likes her but Yeonsu doesn’t necessarily feel the same and it seems like she wants him to verbalize it.
She brings up the prospect of studying abroad to which Ung seems flustered and worried because according to him when couples go abroad they break up. Yeonsu becomes annoyed with him and throws a book at his head. She asks “do you really like me that much?”, their relationship is so sweet because of their minor bickering and clear love for one another but I think Yeonsu (in the past) just wanted more confirmation from him, even though she did love him.
In the first episode, Yeonsu is at his house wanting to collaborate for her campaign but is sprayed with a substance by Ung. There’s a meaning to this though because we learn that Ung sprayed her with water because in the flashback, it was mentioned if they break up and he sees her again, he will throw water and salt on her. At least he kept his promise.
Also, Yeonsu knows that Ung is Ko-o the artist, she knows him so well and still wants to collaborate for business purposes. He isn’t really open to it and refuses to do so. She must have seriously broken his heart because he asks her why she came over since he told her that he never wants to see her. Meanwhile, Yeonsu asks him why he isn’t over it after 6 years — to which, he asks her how she is so casual and why she remains unaffected. It’s sad to see the parallel but I have hopes for the couple and their eventual reunification. Meanwhile, as she is on her way home, she bumps into Jiung who seems to like her. Hopefully, there’s no love triangle. That same evening, Jiung takes it upon himself to talk to Ung about how he treated Yeonsu.
