The Wheel of Time season 1, episode 6 recap

Mother

Blues gather clues and protect everyone from danger. Liandrin (Kate Fleetwood) points this out to the great hall and Mother, Siuan Sanche (played by Hotel Rwanda’s Sophie Okonedo), to save herself from the penance of letting the false dragon storm their make-shift village. Even after she was shown kindness by Alanna (Lion’s Priyanka Bose), defending her choices.

Of course, Liandrin throws out that Mother was once blue herself, so maybe she was showing favoritism. She orders Moiraine to tell her what she has been doing but refuses. Mother orders her back tomorrow to decide her penance.

Moiraine

She gets words that Rand and Mat are back in town. She finds Mat still in his dark spell. Mat then attempts to attack her with that dagger with the red ruby. She channels the knife away and says out loud, “You stupid boy.” She takes the darkness that has been inside him for weeks and pulls a John Coffee, taking it inside her before putting it back into the weapon.

She lets Rand know later that he must keep watching him. He is more potent than he looks because it should have killed him weeks ago. There was darkness inside him already that was feeding off each other. If Mat touches the blade again, he will be lost forever.

Valda’s Rings

Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and Perrin (Marcus Rutherford) show up at the towers. Moiraine is notified and, interestingly, tells her that she heard on good authority that Rand and Mat are safe, despite just talking to them. She hands the blue Aes Sedai a gift — all the Moiraine’s sisters’ rings that he took from them before he restarted their wheel of time.

Pillow Talk

In a total shocker, Moiraine teleports to Mother’s room and is welcomed with an unmotherly embrace. Siuan and Moiraine are lovers! Her little “pufferfish,” she calls her. She knows her lover’s mission and is shocked to hear there could be five she found at two Rivers. They come up with a plan — Mother will sentence her to exile because Lan ordered her to stay in the tower, and they will head out to the Eye of the World to see who is the one. Initially, Moiraine refuses because that means the other four would die but changes her mind for the greater good.

The Band is Back Together – the ending

Moiraine is joined by Lan, Rand, Perrin, Egwene, Mat, Nynaeve, and the Ogier named Loial because of his knowledge of everything on their new journey. So, they have headed to the Eye of the World to find out the true Dragon. When Nynaeve demands answers, Moiraine gives them her best speech about what lays ahead if they don’t. And when Egwene asks what happens to the other four when it is revealed who the true dragon is, she lies and says they cannot know for sure what the wheel has in store for them.

“The wheel weaves as the wheel wills,” says Moiraine. There is no turning back, and they step into the gate. All except Mat, who refuses, and the window closes as he never took a step.
