Puff: Wonders of the Reef is incredible to watch, and the focus on a pufferfish is a genius move!

With narration from Rose Byrne, Puff: Wonders of the Reef may be one of the best documentaries to air this year. The views from start to finish are stunning. If possible, this documentary that runs just over an hour should get watched on a large television screen. I can only imagine that if Puff: Wonders of the Reef was played on a cinema screen, how captivating it would be to watch!
The documentary itself states that “to the naked eye, the open ocean may seem lifeless, but when you look closer, billions of tiny creatures get revealed.” And whilst that’s true, it’s one particular creature that the documentary follows. Puff! Puff, of course, is a pufferfish. The pufferfish hatches from an egg on the reef and then drifts along with the current. After which, he goes out into the sea, where he learns of his superpower! His superpower is the ability to blow up like a balloon in an instant! The scene in which we first see Puff learn how to do this is phenomenal. One of the best scenes in the documentary, I assure you!
But it’s not just the pufferfish that audiences get to witness. There’s a range of wild and fantastical creatures that appear on screen in the Great Barrier Reef. Interestingly, and most importantly, the film is, for the most part, filmed from Puff’s perspective. And we’re lucky to see it! According to the director, Nick Robinson, Puff: Wonders of the Reef would have been impossible to make a few years ago. But, now, as technology has improved, Nick can make a documentary that lives up to his hopes.
In Puff: Wonders of the Reef, you’ll learn several new facts, such as the fact that most young reef fish don’t survive their first year of life. But it’s definitely not all bleak, and there are many joyous moments as we watch as Puff embarks on a journey in the great reef.
This documentary is rated U, so it can be enjoyed by the whole family with no fears on whether there’ll be any scary or gory moments.
