Whilst the murder in The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window doesn’t occur until the second episode, there’s the sense from the very beginning that something deadly is around the corner.
And even when the murder does occur, due to the drunk and unstable nature of leading character Anna, it’s unclear whether the death even happened. Detective Lane even believes that Anna has had too much to drink and disregards her claim of a murder.
So what happened? Was Lisa murdered? And if so, who was responsible? As the series draws closer to the end, it starts to look like Anna could be the one responsible.
Who is the killer in The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window?
Emma!
After Lisa’s body is dug up by a dog, it becomes clear that it wasn’t in Anna’s head and there was, in fact, a brutal murder as she said.
After Anna learns that her handyman, Buell, has been living in her attic, as well as the small little fact that he slaughtered his entire family, Anna believes she has found the person responsible for Lisa’s death. And just then she spots him creeping towards Neil and Emma’s house. In a desperate bid to save them, Anna fights through her fear of the rain and crawls to the house.
Once inside, however, she finds Buell on the floor, having been stabbed. And when she hears Emma’s pleas for help, she rushes to save her. However, in the living room, she finds Neil dead (his throat slit) with Emma holding the knife. Yep, Neil’s daughter is the killer.
Emma reveals that she killed Lisa because she wouldn’t buy her a chocolate bar. And before that, she also killed her mother, Meredith, and her school teacher, Ms Patrick. Following her confession, Emma tells Anna that she intends to frame her for Lisa, Neil and Buell’s murder. But after a violent fight, Anna stabs Emma in the chest. And as Buell survived his stab wound, he was able to back up Anna’s version of events!
By the end of The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, the truth is out and Anna can start to move on with her life.
