Inventing Anna season 1, episode 3 recap

Anna tells Vivian that she is brilliant. Not Vivian, herself. She speaks seven languages fluently. She is practically a savant when it comes to mathematics and business. Even an Eidetic memory that makes doing her research a breeze. Chase had nothing to do with creating the Anna Delvy Foundation (ADF), and she certainly didn’t need Chase to help her with it. Oh, and by the way, she orders Vivian — she needs to come regularly or cut off from the story. And by the way, bring her some expensive underwear.

Chase and Anna lived with Nora for a few months. She claimed that she saw through Anna’s act immediately. This leads to a series of meetings with investors in her project. The prevailing feeling is they love the idea, but they invest in people. And as one puts it, who the fuck is Anna Delvy? This appears to be where Anna begins to solidify her reputation as a wealthy socialite. And the fact that Nora tries to sleep with Chase. Like, a lot. Anna decides that until she builds her reputation, she wants Chase to sway Nora to her side as a prominent named investor for ADF.

Meanwhile, Chase has to go to a tech convention called Open Air in Berlin but leaves Anna at Nora’s. While at a dinner party at Nora’s home, she is sent to grab the food and finds out from a party guest that the convention was canceled this year. He hangs up the phone, and she can’t locate him. The next day she finds. Wake’s computer programmer is shutting down Chase’s offices. He hid all of this, his failing company, from Anna.

Vivian discusses this with the computer programmer as the story shifts to the present day. He tells her that Chase now lives in Dubai, working for the Sheikh, which he thinks lies. Chase is hiding from Wake investors.

Vivian cannot locate Chase in Dubai but calls his parents in Ohio. When Vivian visits Anna in Riker’s prison, she lets the cat out of the bag. Anna loved Chase. The story then flashes back to Anna locating him at his parent’s house. He lied to her as well, kind of. His parents are immigrants but from Canada, and he is adopted. Now Chase has to come clean. He has lost the three million dollars from investors, and they need to lay low until Nora and her friends send over that two million dollar check.

After visiting Anna, Vivian finally convinces Chase to a face-to-face Zoom interview. He tells her the whole story of what happened between him and Anna. It turns out Anna turned the tables on Chase. She drops the hint that Wake is failing Nora, who then invests her money into ADF. Chase tries one last-ditch effort to gain the upper hand by threatening to tell everyone about her passport and wanting 40% of ADF. She walks away from him but then runs because she overhears Nora being notified of unapproved charges. Anna goes on the run because she charged $400,000 of her credit cards. Nora was too embarrassed to let the DA show her finances in court.

The ending

Vivian now has the upper hand, and Anna has to cooperate with her story. From there, Valarie convinces Anna’s lawyer to let her look at the discovery over the ADF proposal. This buys the Manhattan magazine reported endless weeks to investigate the story, and it’s about to take shape.
