Summary

The phone lines are back open, and we’re ready to get swapping for a second season.

Netflix reality series Swap Shop season 2 was released on the streaming service on February 16, 2022.

For those of you who are new to this show, this series is based on Rogersville’s radio show called Swap Shop. Produced by Rob Shaftel and Jerry Carita, the radio show in Tennessee has been active for decades and is still popular amongst people wanting to find a cracking deal. Both seasons one and two have 6 episodes and each episode runs for around 28-33 minutes. If you’re someone into your auctions, unique buying and selling shows, and general interest in the quirky artifacts and objects people collect, this show will be for you.

In my first review, I said I wasn’t captivated enough for a second season, but chose to watch to see if there were any differences. This second season is more inviting and exciting, full of energy and knowledge. In season two we see familiar faces as well as new hunting the best deals. Filled with upbeat music, fun characters, and personalities this series is quirky, full of charm, and an interesting, easy watch.

Each buyer usually has their own business, where they plan to sell the items for a higher price. The first rule is “get there first” which creates healthy competition and driven excitement. We do see frustrations when the contestants are stuck in traffic, or behind tractors, as we know that they’re potentially missing out on a deal. Sometimes there can be some drama between the buyers, ramping up the prices, but it feels friendly and fun rather than bitchy and mean.

In this series, there is some crazy, random stuff for grabs and some unique items. You can defiantly learn some bartering techniques and learn some history behind some of the objects, like old mail sorters and cars.

In the first episode, we witness someone whose relative has passed away and they swap shoppers and pay $3000 for everything in the house, hoping to make a $4000 profit! Imagine buying everything in a house just hoping to find some gems, this has the vibe of Storage Wars. It’s something I wouldn’t dare to do, but the gamble is exciting and they certainly get a kick out of it, when things are going good. Obviously, there are some losses but they deal with them with poise and professionalism.

In the third episode we get to see vintage clothing from the ’80s and 90’s, for all the fashion fans out there, this opens the viewers to the world of thrift shopping, and even in the “iffy” shops, there can be a treasure to find.

There are many different areas explored in this season and I have to admit I am now hooked and hope for a third outing. I can watch these crazy cats chase a good deal all day. I recommend this series if you’re looking for an easy watch, if you’re a fan of antique shows, bargain hunt shows, and anything surrounding bartering.
