Summary

The fourth episode of Space Force season 2 is a rudderless episode that tries some “office” hijinks and is amusing at best.

This recap of Netflix’s Space Force season 2, episode 4, “The Europa Project,” contains spoilers.

Space Force season 2, episode 4 recap

It’s good and bad news for General Mark Naird (Steve Carell). The Secretary (Tim Meadows) has told Naird and his team they are getting The Europa Project. The bad news is NASA will run the show and have most of the responsibility. The bright side? The Secretary says that if they screwed up their tiny part in this project, Naird and his team would lose their jobs.

For the second time for Angela (and Dr. Kaifang notes the third time for himself), “Changela” has had sexual intercourse. Of course, Angela (Tawny Newsome) cannot sit still. She throws her clothes out the window again and starts to beat her drum set at two in the morning. She is showing signs of some mental health disorders. Is it Insomnia? Depression? Bipolar Disorder? Only time will tell.

This project is to build a defense against a potential alien invasion. This was created and pushed by a 103-year-old red-state senator obsessed with the subject. (Considering the racist source, one may wonder if he talked about illegal humans without green cards). The group debates how best to kill the aliens with brainstorming sessions.

And of course, for the second episode in a row, Chan (Jimmy O. Yang) has “Fuck” Todd (Parks & Recreation’s Ben Schwartz) to talk to Angela to him up. (Chan has some significant insecurity issues). She tells Todd that she isn’t ready for a relationship. He compares Chan to a precious little bird, and she should be gentle with him. And she then asks Todd to break up with Chan for her, and he freaks out. When Todd rips the bandaid off, that causes Chan to become upset.

Meanwhile, instead of preparing for a potential alien invasion, the group starts to pull a couple of dozen pranks on each other. General Naird doesn’t appreciate these jokes, especially against himself and, most importantly, against the United States of America. But it’s all a setup for Naird to pull a trick of his own as he has General Brad Gregory (Don Lake) and his daughter Erin (Ma’s Diana Silvers) pretend that an alien has attacked him.

The ending

Lastly, after the prank is pulled, Mark is served with divorce papers from his wife, Maggie (Lisa Kudrow), where General Naird and Dr. Mallory (John Malkovich) laugh about the foolishness. Of course, he thinks it’s a prank, so he announces it to the entire base. As he does this, his laughs turn to cries and tears. The papers are authentic, and he begins to sob while saying into the microphone for the loudspeaker to transmit all over Space Force, “What am I going to do?”

The entire base looks embarrassed for him. No one knows what to say as he sobs uncontrollably. Strangely, Erin is nowhere on camera for us to gauge her reaction.
